China in the 1930s was a rough time. First the floods, then the Japanese invasion. Not good.

    2. The China floods number also includes the indirect deaths, from the diseases and starvation that followed.

The flood itself did not claim millions of lives, estimates are about 10x smaller. Still insane, but not „the rest of the chart combined and then some“.

    3. Flag choices seem odd. Why the PRC flag, and not the old RoC flags, for the Chinese disasters before 1949? For Asghabat, the Russian tricolour is bizarre when you could have used the flag of the USSR or the flag of the Turkmen SSR, or even the current Turkmenistan flag.

    4. One interesting thing is Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and other Muslim leaders claimed that Hurricane Katrina was sent by god as punishment. It occurred in 2005 and claimed 1392 deaths.

Note that this happened less than a year after the Indian Ocean tsunami which claimed a whooping 227,898 deaths, with the vast majority being Muslims (Indonesia, 87.2% Muslim, accounted for the vast majority of deaths).
