    1. I don’t think United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea applied in 1683.

Ottomans really looked at the map and said “yeah, I’ll take all of that”

    3. If it counts vasal states, ok. Else, ottomans didnt rule for more than a tiny part of current day Romania (Dobrogea, some Danube cities, parts of Banat, parts of the RO-HUN border), and im not even sure they had them all at the time of this map, even. Most of the territory remained autonomous, but under different degrees of vassality to the sultan.

Seems like they could have linked up better around the Black Sea. Isn’t that where the Circassians were based

Malta, perhaps Suleiman’s most embarrassing defeat (given a 7 to 1 advantage), is suspiciously missing from the map. ***Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum!***

    6. They never had Transylvania, also most of the nowdays Slovakia remeained under Habsburg rule

    7. Never controlled the major Ionian islands. Corfu/Kerkyra, Kefalonia, Zante/Zakynthos, and Kythira were never under Ottoman control.

I’m surprised the Black Sea isn’t completely encircled considering how close it is to their seat of power.

Super simplified summary of Ottoman history: What if Roman empire, but Muslim?
