    1. As a regular via rider more engines are great and could easily be used to phase out obsolete engines and potentially expand service which is great. Love to see Via getting the investment.

      On the other that doesn’t solve the crippling delays that are killing Via. Unless the government finds a way to work with CPR and CN so that the railway sharing doesn’t to continue to result in 30 min to 1 hour rail delays Via will never be a meaningful option. This year I’ve done ~12 trips to Windsor, 2 to Montreal and 2 to Ottawa (and return trips back to Toronto) not a single one was less than 40 minutes delayed.

      We have to build an East-West transmission network anyway.

      Why don’t we offer CN/CP a deal, we’ll subsidize hanging overhead lines and electrify all your main freight lines. In exchange for the rights of way to string super high voltage transmission lines across the country?

      I don’t think battery tech is really here yet unless these are just some quite small adjunct

      Otherwise these sound like the most expensive locomotives ever built
