I would not think this is formal enough for a wedding, more a summer party. I would go for the dress + heels or the other formal dress + heels

    2. OkiesFromTheNorth on

Norway don’t have a strict dress code. We mostly just keep it „casual“ or „formal“. I guess your dress is what in English would be called semi-formal perhaps?

But at a wedding, in the summertime? You’ll be fine.

    3. Eh, I’d say slightly longer and maybe a bit less white in the colour.

It does ofcourse depend on the style of the wedding

    4. kidwhonevergrowsup on

For «pent antrekk» is this to casual. This is an rveryday dress/ summer party dress. A longer dress – to the knee or below would be better, and A lighter colour

    5. This is just casual for going in the city, this isn’t « wedding worth »

    6. Lost_Cardiologist458 on

You will not be thrown out, but you will feel underdressed… Would absolutely go for a more formal long dress

    7. shartmaister on

I’d say this is «pent». «Pent» is less formal than «mørk dress» which is the most standard dress code.

I would definitly double check with Your friends. Norway goes sometimes extreme elegant for nothing (like wearing extreme elegant evening dresses for jule bord …or on the overnight ferry to Kiel… ) – then again extreme casual. Confusing.

    9. I think it’s a nice dress, but it might be a bit too casual. Maybe just ask the bride/groom? If you have something with a longer skirt it would be more suitable. I’m sure people would be understanding if you can’t spend a bunch on a gown though.

    10. I would not wear that to a wedding. Better with a more formal dress and fancier shoes.

    11. It’s pretty but it’s too short. Would be fine it was longer but right now it’s a summer party dress, not a guest-in-wedding type of dress. Should be knee length minimum.

Translated with AI, here is description of what people here would wear:

Pent antrekk: This is a relatively informal dress code, but you should still make an effort to dress up. Avoid everyday casual clothes! Women can wear dresses that are knee-length or opt for an elegant pantsuit. A full-length dress is also perfectly appropriate. Men can choose a light-colored suit or dress trousers paired with a blazer. Loafers and trousers with turned-up cuffs are also acceptable.

One resource said the english version is business casual

It will depend entirely on which part of the country, venue and age group how you should interpret the dress code.

But generally, this will be too underdressed for the occasion. I would go for a dress that is below the knee.

    14. TrashyHamster on

I think your other dress option works better. The short one is just a bit too casual in my opinion.

You could also double check with the bride/groom.

    15. Quiet_Penis on

Dress 2 is more appropriate imo. The first option is cute, but too casual as everyone has already pointed out.

    16. katzandhatz on

That’s a big no. This is the dress you would take to the beach or park. Try to find a bunad so you see a picture and then decide from there. Nice shoes, etc.

    17. Being_Total on

Norwegians dress up for important social occasions. For weddings men wear suits and even tuxedos. For women it’s more formal as well. I’ve been to many weddings where women wear evening gowns. Dressing well for a wedding is taken as a sign of respect.

    18. UnknownPleasures3 on

It’s cute but its too casual. I’d go for the second option.

      Do you know the venue?

    19. Dress 2 is the appropriate choice. Dress it up with your choice of accessories if you think it’s too dull…

    20. mellomschmomsen on

They would both be with in the description „pent antrekk „. But the second one is a little more „wedding“. The first one is pretty, but more apropriate for a dinner or a party. That is just my personal opinion though.

    23. To me, dress1 is a tad too casual.

Don’t get me wrong: This is cute, and would be perfect for a concert or date, but for a wedding, you’d be underdressed.

      dress2 is much better.

The unwritten rule in Norway is: As pretty as possible, but never white (or close to white), and never prettier than the bride.

    24. Dismal-Razzmatazz- on

Think cocktail attire. You’re going for an elevated, but not formal, look. The men will likely be in sports coats or collared shirts and jackets. You don’t need a fully formal dress but a nice cocktail dress or similar and dressy shoes (if you hate heels a nice pair of ballet flats or cute sandals) would work well.

As someone else mentioned, Norwegians dress up for events – and being asked to a wedding is a big deal. It’s normally only close friends and family so people show their appreciation by dressing well.

As someone who has attended summer weddings in Norway – plan ahead and have something to throw over your shoulders in the evening.

I would not wear that to the wedding. Because I am a man, and don’t own or wear any dresses let alone that one. Not to mention, Im not even invited to that wedding. I don’t know where it is or when, and I most likely don’t even know anyone there. I don’t even know who is getting married. Or why they are doing it. What have motivated them to do this, I might never know. This really doesn’t concern me in any way what so ever. I don’t know why anyone would come to me for my opinion on this. I can’t awnser your riddels. Oh the tragedy oh the tragedy and oh the agony! Are nothing good enough for you! You dear demanding me solving this conundrum for you. Like im some kind of pack mule. Well im going to bed. I need to sleep on it.

    26. I have never been so surprised by what is considered minimally acceptable in Norway for weddings. Think ball gown. I am not joking. You will need a floor-length dress, at minimum. You would feel more comfortable in heels and a pretty elegant-looking dress, think chiffon or velvet. You will still feel under-dressed in dress 2.

    27. UsuallySus33 on

No..Personally, i’d wear that for a walk trou the city or to grab a coffee with a friend..but it seems very underwhelming for a wedding that requires „pent antrekk“.

I’d get a pastel colored dress thats a bit more elegant and not busy (rather longer, tho maybe a shorter can pass as well) and heels, like stilleto or some short heeled dainty sandals.

Edit: Just saw your other option..and yee, that can work well.😄

    28. alienpiratetaco on

No and no. Both dresses look cheap and far too casual.
If you are struggling, go look at the Cosima Embellished Maci Dress by Lace&Beads.

    29. Bit shocked to find out this is too casual, but as a guy, I have the luxury of just using my dress/suit for any formal occasion.

    30. a_karma_sardine on

It depends on the wedding. Is it a casual summer wedding or a complete merengue Disney fantasy? If it is the former, the first dress will be okay, but you should dress it up with high heels, jewellery and stylish hair/accessories.

To get a better idea of what kind of occasion it is, ask the happy couple or the toastmaster.
