I just renewed mine online and my old one had expired about a year ago.
Was pretty happy not to need to stand in line at the passport office.

Can child passports also be issued online?
Edit: Nope.

I renewed my passport by mail, applied for my kids passport by mail, the same way for ages (decades?).
It’s easier than doing it online because you need to get a digital picture from a supplier, that has to be on a usb stick. It literally costs more because of the stick.

We have always found it a little funny that we take a photo on a digital camera, make a print from it, and then the passport office scans the photo back to a digital version.
I do understand why, the passport process has to be very secure from start to finish, but also it seems silly. Nice to see they are making progress.

I went to submit my renewal and it said they reached the daily limit and to try again tomorrow. So I think the are missing the point of automation

Unless I am misunderstanding the article, I should be able to renew online even though my passport doesn’t expire for 7 months. I just tried to do the renewal online and it still has the 6 month expiry requirement. Not that I care as I don’t need to renew it right now, so I can easily wait until it is less than 6 months before expiry.

So for the photo, we still need to make a trip to a place that does passport photos. Just now it’s digital.

Something is wrong here.
Either the minster spoke too early, or the government didn’t update the requirements on the site.
I need to renew my passport so I can get a new visa for some travel in October, but I have just less than a year left of my passport.
The site still says, it has to be within 6 months.
I don’t want to have to go into a passport office.. It would be great I could renew online but seems like i’m in Limbo either go tomorrow, or pray it changes soon?
Just confirmed by logging in.

Did it a couple of months ago, so much better.
Well it only took 30 years since the internet was widely used for this to happen.

I got my digital photo at CAA. and the process worked well.
My only hiccup was Canada Post not delivering the passport or placing a card on the door to pick it up while I was home. So I waited a few week thinking it was still being process and had to check on my own at shoppers , knowing something was off. it was there for sitting for a while.
