With this second Trump presidency and an increasingly hostile world we need leaders who can perform both at home and on the world stage. In the latter, Poilievre is hopelessly unqualified.

Hill Times made mistake in calling him a leader. Hes a l@ser who is reaping tax payer dollars throughout his life

    3. We need a strong , competent opposition for Canada to be it’s best.

I also wish Pierre better understood what it was to be both a political leader and the opposition:

I wish they’d get off this “ we are the opposition so we must oppose! Everything! Even when it’s good for Canada we have to twist it.“

More like, many voters fail to appreciate how much better things were before 11 years and counting of epic liberal failure and social experiments that resulted in a lost generation, incredible malfeasance and zero accountability.

Can Pierre come across as abrasive, yep, however if you knew him you would know he is just incensed and fed up with how poorly we have been served over the last 11 years and counting and more importantly the impact that has had on our quality of life across the board. We should ALL be incensed.

    5. I actually think he gambled and lost with a bad campaign plan last election and missed his window, but do you all really not see that these articles are pumped out every time Carney stumbles? There is clearly an agenda behind these.

“Andrew Scheer is not the right conservative leader for these times.”

“Erin O’toole is not the right conservative leader for these times.”

      It will never end.

Erin O’Toole was the least scummy Con leader in the past 10 years. PP is just like the feeling of peanut butter on the roof of your mouth, awful.

    8. Beneficial-Ride-4475 on

Well, that’s the thing isn’t it? He is the only guy the CPC’s got, the alternatives aren’t much better (as far as they are concerned anyway). And regardless of people’s opinions, regardless if they like it, Poilievre is the guy the CPC (as in the party itself) wants. Furthermore the base, the hardcore anti-social progress types, the farmers and ranchers who feel abandoned by the LPC and NDP, the conservative gun owners (who are the majority of gun owners of course), etc. Love him.

It’s irrelevant if he is the right leader (to ge clear, he isn’t), he is what’s wanted.

I bet most of the „people“ commenting here cant even say what Pierre wants cause they just want to hate on the guy. Buzzwords and Liberal media talking points are as far as they go learning about his platform.

People have become the very thing they hate – American style politics

I voted for Carney, I was definitely duped on some things, on others it’s exactly what I expected. I wouldn’t vote for him again, but I wouldn’t vote for any of them. Lewis, as much as I like some of his ideas, his stance on immigration and natural resources is way too idealistic for me given what we are going through. Pierre and any Conservative they put in there will just be Carney on steroids and max austerity, zero regulations, and no support for those at the bottom. The Liberals are way too idealistic on so many issues and are trying to ram bills through parliament with no discussion.

I genuinely think the best of the three are NDP and even if I did vote for them, my vote wouldn’t matter since my area is either Liberal or Conservative.

    11. Heavy_Direction1547 on

I can’t imagine a time he would be the right leader for when he lacks „talent, substance and real-world experience“.

    12. He is the exact perfect leader for the Conservatives!

If you are a Liberal or NDP supporter that is haha

    13. friendly-techie on

To all the posters trying to gaslight how Erin O’Toole was the right leader – here is a little reminder for how your party and the media sold him as Trump.

      https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/the-eight-ways-erin-o-toole-is-copying-donald-trump-s-playbook/article_96e9aece-a9a1-5b48-bd90-1458a9e4542d.html

Stop the gaslighting! ANY Conservative leader will be painted as Trump. And Canadians will fall for it time and time again.

    14. HoldingThunder on

He is not the right leader for any time. He is 100% the government waste that conservatives claim to fight against. In office since 2004 and has only passed one (1) piece of legislation. I wish I could only complete 1 thing at my job in 22 years.

    15. Yet Mark Carney is? He’s been selling himself out to Trump (Gordie Howe Bridge money split), to the BC condo developers, and is forcing garbage bills like C22.

    16. Honestly , I think that there’s more people in Canada who lean right but can see right through these ridiculous culture wars. I know the loudest right wing internet people are the trumpy racist shitbags who will cut off their own leg so one imaginary trans kid can’t win all the women’s sports. But there are way more that are more pragmatic and turned off by these identity driven culture wars.

The entire party should distance themself from that bullshit if they want a chance to be more relevant. However, they have probably fed the snakes too much that now they’ve become a large enough portion and they NEED to keep them in order to have a chance.

That leaves the conservatives only chance to form power at the entire country hating the liberals enough to vote them out. They almost got it done by focusing their entire energy on one guy , but then the liberals figured out that getting that one guy out is all they needed to do in order to remain in power. You can see them trying this with Carney because it’s the only play they have …. but it’s not working because Carney is stepping pretty much in line with what a lot of pragmatic conservatives would agree with.

PP is a joke that has nothing except saying ‚other guy bad‘. For the amount of time he’s been in the game , he seems woefully ill equipped to play it. He assumed and still assumes that right wing Canada is as uneducated and naive as our American counterparts which was incorrect.

I’ll say it again in case any conservative politicians are paying attention. Get your party out of the culture war game.

    17. Unfortunately the right Conservative leader is running the Liberal party. Thats how far right Canadian politics has swerved. And lets be real here, Canadians want a Conservative leader for Finance and Immigration, but want a progressive for social issues.

      They want an adult.

    18. The fact that there are scores of this kind of drivel is proof this is just a distraction from the mess Ottawa put themselves in. With all going on in Canada this is the least of our concerns but with the sheer volume of conservatives bad you would really have to wonder why this is the focus.

    19. Based on the current state of our country I don’t think Canadians have a stellar record of choosing the right leader for the times across the board from the municipal level right up to federal. It’s not like the Liberals are standing on anything even approximating a modest record.

    20. LividOpposite on

I think there’s some negative news about to come out about the Liberal party. These articles seem to pop-up when something bad is or about to happen.

    21. Nah, I like Pierre. Although I voted for Leslyn Lewis during the leadership race.

Pierre is fine. Ya’ll just drink reddits kool-aid too much.

    22. No_Truth4137 on

I genuinely have no idea what the Conservaties are thinking with him still in charge. He doesn’t have it and the party has gone downhill since Carney took over the Liberal party.

People are so sick of the fear and division coming from some of these politicians and it seems that Pierre tries to lean into that.

Honestly, he should have been fired after blowing the 20 point lead they had. Unbelievable how he dropped the ball and wouldn’t pivot after Carney became the Prime Minister

    23. Tussocky_Urchin on

It will take a leader of talent, substance, and real-world experience to compete with a prime minister and Liberal leader who has all three

What? That is not how i would describe Carney

    24. We know.

All of Canada knows and resoundingly answers this question last year, yet for some reason I still have to listen to his drivel.

    25. gettingtgere on

Carney who media decide dis the right leader has turned out really well for Canada. SMH.
