This living plastic with bacteria built in looks useful for lessening single use items. It breaks down completely in six days when activated leaving no trace behind.
Getting the process going needs warm conditions and nutrients for the microbes so it may not work well in everyday waste disposal. still a step ahead for things we only need briefly inthe future.

I think it works because they added the dormant bacteria into
PCL which is already biodegradeable and the monomers themselves aren’t toxic or a pollutant
Although I’m not sure submerging them in 6 days in nutrient broth kept at 50*C is preferred compared to just composting even if it takes several weeks to degrade. Hopefully they can develop it for non-biodegradable plastic that can also break down the toxic monomers
