Canada’s excuse for honoring Mao was that this is just the standard flag protocol for the death of ANY foreign head of state… except when it’s Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong-il, Mikhail Gorbachev, Robert Mugabe, Islam Karimov, King Abdullah, Augusto Pinochet, Boris Yeltsin, or really just anyone they don’t like, but otherwise their hands were totally tied and they had to honor Mao and you’re being mean and unfair for criticizing them.
