Her declining approval ratings are often attributed to the fact that she prioritized revising the Imperial House Law over addressing the rising cost of living.
However, Takaichi had openly stated even before the election that revising the Imperial House Law was a priority that could not be postponed. It was also well known that she accepted a weaker yen, making it easy to foresee cost-push inflation driven by higher prices for imported goods.
Given these circumstances, it’s understandable that Takaichi would be puzzled by the public backlash.
