From their post on Instagram:
„While we were trying to create a place where digital nomads could meet, a bias was created that some (and not all) +62 numbers / Indonesians were incorrectly rejected.“
What a bunch of horseshit. How does such a thing happen without the explicit business approval that someone has implemented a system that rejects persons with a certain nationality in the first place?
They bloody well knew what they were doing and now they are trying to salvage their business with some lame excuse. Pretending that this was a slip up and that they are fixing it.
Edit: also checkout https://www.reddit.com/r/indonesia/s/NOCGLJr2Xp, this confirms my thoughts
Go to another country, then set up a club excluding people from the country.
Good to see countries starting to push back against expats
“Expats” ffs they’re immigrants
Do none of you actually read the article? 25% of the participants where Indonesian, the largest nationality.
Whole thing is a joke, like most of the comments here.
damn the italians in thailand and now the dutch in bali lol
Dutch immigrants.
There are Casios in my country that don’t allow entry to locals. I think the government is ok with that because they’d rather foreigners lose their money to the house.
I really don’t understand this sort of behaviour. Happens in many developing countries. Its like colonization from temu.
Why does everything have to be open to everyone these days? If its a private club why cant they pick who they want to join?
Because of Indonesian government corruption a lot of Balinese have a general positive opinion of the Dutch, or they did until these two pissed all over that.

Funniest reason to be barred from a country.
FTA:
„The group added that Indonesians represented almost 25 per cent of ticket holders at one of its recent silent disco runs held on Wednesday.“
It’s entirely plausible that this was some kind of administrative error involving phone numbers during the registration process. But nobody cares, they just want to get their pitchforks out.
Good for them.
Hate these tendency of foreigners who come to a country and then start exclusionary communities.
It is a problem in India too. Himachal, Goa, gokarna is full of israeli or russian run places which do not serve to locals.
Noticed same thing in Sri Lanka too on my trip.
Hope more nations stamp these out.
Its reflects positively on indonesia that it clamps down on foreign expats that discriminate against locals, unlike Singapore.
I am suspicious of news from a user coined “i-heart-penis”. Maybe I’m odd or old fashioned.
„I’ve arrived. Now listen to this ya peasants: I make the rules around here!“.
When it’s white people, they’re “expats.”
When it’s brown people, they’re “immigrants.”
A lot of people seem to be missing the “Dutch” angle of this whole story. This is literally the region that used to be referred to as the “Dutch East Indies”.
To anyone who grew up in the aftermath of that brutal colonial occupation, this is not just a couple of clueless tourists who started a running club. These are Dutch running around like they still own the place, and treating the locals like sh-t.
Lol at the same time the same type of Dutch folks are complaining about why the foreigners don’t integrate into their society. This type of Dutch folks use their exclusion shenanigans tactics even abroad …
People that do “run clubs” need to be studied. Extremely weird behaviour and something like this is entirely expected from the type of person that can’t go for a run without creating a nuisance
CIRCLE JERK
people are learning from history 🙂 don’t give them an inch.
There are expat events in every country every day. Yes, you should integrate in your local community when you move abroad, but sometimes you just want to hang out with people who understand your life. Just search „expat event Amsterdam“ and see how many „racist“ events are being held in their native country.
“People who are intolerant of others cultures and the Dutch!”
why are white westerners always expats and non-white people immigrants?
Expats, you mean immigrations? White people moving abroad are still immigrants.
What defines expat from immigrant? Why aren’t they called Dutch immigrants who started a run club that excluded local population?
Titlegore. Should remove “on the Indonesian island”, sounds like the island excludes nationals
