It would to see this from a density metric. E.g. sites per 1000 km^2

    2. Italy has a UNESCO site every 4,900 km2 while China has approximately one every 157,000.

It is amazing that Turkey and Greece are lower than New World countries.

    4. Would have expected Greece and Japan to be higher. I did NOT expect the UK to be up there. What qualifies ?

Why does Greece has zero natural sites?

I mean it’s a dry country in summer but so is Australia

UNESCO world heritage list is the biggest example of Euro-propaganda and bias.

France’s listing includes Le Corbusier’s Saint-Pierre church (first stone laid 1970 and opened only in 2006). But the list has no place for thousands of years old marvels like Temple of Edfu (Egypt), Sites from Nimrud (Iraq) or Gupta era Temples (India).

In an unbiased list, France or Spain would never make the top-10

Compared to its presence in world history, Mexico seems to have a lot of World Heritage sites.
