Es erstaunt mich immer noch, dass man im öffentlichen Verkehrsnetz Großbritanniens ein fahrplanmäßiges Luftkissenfahrzeug nehmen kann.
Die Überfahrt nach Ryde auf der Isle of Wight dauert etwa 10 Minuten und ist damit der weltweit einzige ganzjährige kommerzielle Passagier-Hovercraft-Service.
Zuzusehen, wie es an Land kommt, ist fast so unterhaltsam wie das Fahren!
Ist hier schon jemand damit gereist? Gibt es einen einzigartigeren britischen öffentlichen Nahverkehr?

You used to be able to get one across the Channel. I never got to ride it, but my parents had a memorable crossing that involved six hours of rough seas and entirely too much vomit.
Yes for work and leisure. For work in the morning mid winter during rough weather in the pitch black it’s terrifying. It rocks violently. It actually flipped a long time ago because of this.
I’m a bit bitter about the cost of travelling across the water around Portsmouth including the Gosport ferry. They’re some of, if not the most expensive stretches of water in the world.
Sorry to put a downer on it. I know it’s romantic and cool in principle. If you’re more interested there is a hovercraft museum in lee-on-solent.
Yep, been on it a bunch as a teen growing up, used to live in Southsea and would go across on the hovercraft and go ice skating at Ryde Arena on isle of Wight.
Or we would ride our bicycles and have picnics in random fields or skim stones on one of the little beech areas.
Life was so much better as a kid with no mobile, I feel so sorry for this generation.

I’ve travelled on it a few times. It’s an interesting and entertaining way to travel but noisy as fuck!
