That moment everyone else headed south and Odysseus thought heading north from Troy was a better alternative…

Bro just took the long way home, don’t act like you’ve never taken a detour to enjoy a extra few minutes of silence before you get home lmao.

Never seen before circe in sardinia, according to the mythology she was supposed to be in mount Circeo south of Rome

Why didn’t he just go straight back to Ithaca as the third stop? Is he stupid?

Extremely wrong. For example, calypso lived and held odysseus hostage in an island

“Certainly [Jack Aubrey] had heard of Homer, and had indeed looked into Mr Pope’s version of his tale; but for aught he could make out, the fellow was no seaman. Admittedly Ulysses had no chronometer, and probably no sextant neither; but with no more than log, lead and lookout an officer-like commander would have found his way home from Troy a d—d sight quicker than that. Hanging about in port and philandering, that was what it amounted to, the vice of navies from the time of Noah to that of Nelson. And as for that tale of all his foremast-hands being turned into swine, so that he could not win his anchor or make sail, why, he might tell that to the Marines. Besides, he behaved like a very mere scrub to Queen Dido.”

There is no „correct map“ these are just speculations of random voyages sang by bards and told by sailors and put into a „poem“ by guy named Homer that we also know little about.
I like the theories that majority of these voyages are not from to the Mediterranean and that the Mycenean Greeks actually reached Iceland or Norway/Scotland or even Canada as there are plenty of details that suggest those locations.

Erm… nope. This map is completely off.
* Circe belongs on the Italian mainland coast in Lazio (hence Cape Circeo, south of Rome), not in northern Sardinia.
* Polyphemus and the Cyclopes are traditionally placed in Sicily (around Mt. Etna), not on the southern coast.
* Calypso’s island (Ogygia) is traditionally located in the far Western Mediterranean, near the Pillars of Hercules (or modern-day Gibraltar/Gozo).
And this is just scratching the surface of how bizarre this routing is.

Calypso was traditionally thought to reside on the island of Gozo.
