PLEASE NOTE: Birthrates in Africa and the world are dropping.

Is this news to anybody? Africa has been the fastest growing continent by population for years now

That is not all of Europe.

I think people don’t realise the population burst in all of Africa. While this article is over 10 years old, the UN predicts that by 2050 1 in 10 births globally will be in Nigeria – that’s a huge number. And that 40% of all children in 2050 will be in Africa.
But why does Nigeria have such a high birth rate ??

I wonder whether people in Europe understand how catastrophic the illegal migration crisis will become by the end of this century, driven by climate and humanitarian refugees? Even 3% of Africa’s future population on boats – that would amount to nearly 110 million migrants. Meanwhile, the EU’s population stands at around 400 million elderly people.

Take it with a grain of salt. I did a project in Nigeria. Nigerian government was not even aware of a big recycling plant they had in a rural area between Lagos and Abuja. We had to inform them about it. So I doubt they have control and knowledge about their real pop.

I don’t get it, Europe had it’s population boom, Asia had it’s population boom, but Africa can’t ?

Then there is the question on how accurate the counting is. Do not forget, they can get more money the more children they register

Economically, demographically, politically, Europe is cooked whichever way you slice it. Africa, on the other hand, has a very bright future.

Wow a lot of these comments sure are disgusting. Even some talking about how there’ll be a European or global flood of refugees come 2050, which is a straight-up white supremacist myth. Not to say the people repeating that myth are inherently supremacists ofc, but it IS direct rhetoric they use. Immigrants are not coming for your livelihoods, you paranoid chodes.
Population booms are literally standard as countries economically develop. Much of Africa’s development has been artificially delayed because of… well. Read literally any history textbook. The world at large has not treated that continent kindly.
Regardless, this data doesn’t show anything for mortality rates, which also decrease as countries develop. Or economic development, or healthcare accessibility, or migration rates, or or or. It just shows births. Fearmongers LOVE to erase context. Not accusing OP of that at all, but as a viewer, you’re responsible here for providing your own.

I think people’s population mindset is still in thr 1950s where Nigeria had <50 million people. Nigeria’s population in higher than Brazil’s now

It makes no big difference if you have 2 starving children or 5 starving children. This is not a hate comment. It was like this in Europe (at least most rural areas) in the past. It was common for *commoners* to have 5+ children.
Western ideology, career and education focus as well as numerous other factors resulted in most families only having 1-2 children at most nowadays. People are insecure of the future, can’t afford housing, etc.

Let’s be realistic here guys that’s not fully accurate.
According to the UN’s World Population Prospects 2024, the actual projections for 2025 are:
· Nigeria: ~7.6 million births
· Europe: ~6.3 million births
So the core point of the post is correct: Nigeria is projected to have more births in 2025 than the whole of Europe combined.
