Where’s the kaboom?
There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!
Amazing flight. Hoping for an orbital 14th flight and 2nd stage tower catch.
Second flight of the „v3“ version.
* The launch itself went without any issues, the ship reached its planned almost-orbital trajectory
* Booster boostback burn was successful (this failed last time)
* Booster landing burn didn’t ignite enough engines for a soft splashdown, hit the ocean at high speed
* The ship deployed 20 Starlink satellites which all unfolded and sent data briefly (they were on the same suborbital trajectory, so they reentered quickly)
* The ship relit an engine in space, simulating a deorbit burn (this was skipped last time)
* Reentry worked without issues, leading to the ship hovering over the Indian Ocean, simulating a landing
* Normally the ship explodes when tipping over afterwards, but this time it survived, swimming in the ocean. SpaceX got great drone shots of the heat shield. We’ll see if they can recover the whole ship.
They need to work on the booster landing burn, but from the ship side everything looks ready to make the next flight enter a proper circular orbit.
The TPS team must be drooling over the data.it also seems like the white streaks r just “dust” from the foam and when water touched it it just wiped the tiles clean
Starship really puts the SHIP in starSHIP.
Absolutely insane, Ship did absolutely perfectly the entire flight! I never thought we would see an intact ship in the ocean. I guess maybe the fact they did an extended relight and drained more prop from the headers probably helped.

With the successful on orbit relight there shouldn’t be much in the way of the next flight going fully orbital
so that 50 meter tall steel structure with giant tanks inside just fell over into water and just tanked it? how sturdy are they made?
I hope we get to see more images of the ship floating
SpaceX is great. The young people working for them are really making something of their lives.
Are they able to tow it to a port intact? That would be astonishing!
How did it not explode upon splashdown???
“Ship swimming in the Indian Ocean” is a wild way to describe a test flight outcome. Do we know if this was a planned splashdown profile or more of a controlled abort near the end?
That was awesome. Well done SpaceX. Now go get S40 before China tries to claim it, lol
They could send a Cybertruck out to tow it in, right? That would be a great pic.
Didn’t Elon claim it could be a boat?
To be fair, the seas would have to be calm. He made that distinction.

Why not use the title of the article? If I didn’t know what happened and/or didn’t know much about spaceflight the post title gives a very negative impression…
