Spanish technicians were the first to hear Neil Armstrong’s message—“Houston, this is Tranquility Base; the Eagle has landed”—and relayed the communication to NASA’s mission control center in the United States.

Although no damage to the complex has been reported so far, authorities consider its protection a priority due to the strategic role it plays in international space communications.
