This is just a way to replace his illegal tariffs.
Fight back against Trump and he will hit you with tariffs. Try to work with him and he will perceive you as weak and hit you with tariffs. This was obvious from the start. The same thing is happening in Europe.
If forced labour was a genuine issue, then the US would be punishing itself before any other country.
The US must be one of the only countries in the world to have a legal statute *enabling* forced labour (the 13th amendment).

This is less predictable than a 10 year old playing a tycoon game.
I am wondering if “forced labor” just means countries that has immigrants in their employee. I mean, if forced labor was a real concern, he would tariff the heck out of oil from the Middle East.
All richer Asian countries are magnets for workers from poorer countries. My wife was one. The jobs these immigrants do are not filled by locals. Global economics is bringing these people in and giving them an opportunity to make a lot more money than if they never left. In turn, the developing Asian countries where these people come from get an influx of remittance that is major source of economic activity back home.
We got a 12.5%er and we don’t even have a good reason.
Well it’s Trump and I’m not surprised. He would impose tariff because SK drinks water or breath air.
Forced labor is cheap labor. Cheap labor can be forced labor but not necessarily.
Some countries use forced labor to produce goods at very low cost and export them to fill the vacuum in the market and gain a competitive advantage in markets with limited domestic production.
These countermeasures are not the preference of somebody, they are already written in bilateral agreements as *conditions*.
Now, my opinion has two sides. From an economic perspective, I oppose forced labor because it creates unfair competition and undermines labor standards. From an ethical perspective, however, I support forced labor. Not sure about South Korea, but here in Europe far too many people are living parasites in the society while others can’t land a job to survive.
This is taco market manipulation. Yawn.
