Luckily for Poilievre, the truth is irrelevant. He’ll continue pushing the fiction of a “Liberal crime wave,” just as he does with every other narrative that benefits him.
Truth generally is inconvenient for Pollievre, it’s inconvenient for all Conservatives really.
This tends to not matter much though. Certainly their supporters seem to not care about the truth.
It’s a shame too, if the right wasn’t so insane maybe we could actually pressure the Liberals to do something good for anyone… Instead they just get to gesture at this dude.
It doesn’t matter though it’s how people feel. And it depends where you live, where I am we have no RCMP pretty much and people just do what they want and they’re picked up and then they’re put out again the next day even if they’ve done a serious crime, people don’t go away for a long time so I’m glad the government is looking at changing this, because in rural Canada, in some places, it’s pretty bad. Pierre knows this, he’s never gonna win as leader and they should’ve gotten rid of him months ago because they had way better leadership candidates.
However, he understands rural Canada in every way, I still don’t understand why the liberals don’t understand rural Canada, I know we don’t matter as much but that’s where most of the support is coming in for Pierre. I do not support that man. He is useless and they passed over to amazing leadership candidates for him and he’s running that party into the ground in my view.
These crime statistics don’t really disprove what Pierre is saying though right? It’s a drop this year which is really good but our crime rates are still higher now than they were 10 years ago.

Total crime dropped essentially every single year from 1991 to 2014 and then increased every year from 2014 (ignoring covid for obvious reason) until it peaked in 2023. Violent crime is also significantly higher now than it was in 2014 when the liberals took over.
The crime problem got worse under the liberals and now we’re celebrating any little decrease like it suddenly undoes a decade of increased crime?
In theory it should be, but politics around crime are driven entirely by vibes, not facts. If people feel like crime is up, they’ll worry about it.
Conservative policy around crime has always been rather paradoxical because they claim to be „tough on crime“ yet want to loosen gun control regulations.
Firearms are a major aggravating factor in incidents of violent crimes (robberies, home invasions, stalking, aggravated assaults, attempted murder, carjackings etc).
Widespread civilian ownership of firearms also make it a lot deadlier for cops to enforce the law.
I will happily say PP is a moron and has no clue what he’s doing, but the Liberals didn’t do ***anything*** to cause this, and no one knows why it went down.
So we can clown on the CPC for being wrong, and deservedly, but this is kinda meaningless when there is no indication of what caused the drop.
