What a moron. So it’s ¥1,450 per person, and the menu showed ¥2900 for two persons. He mistook that as charging more and made a defamatory video about it. And now it has 1 million views and tons of negative reviews. He knew what he was doing. The restaurant should be suing his ass.
I believe the restaurant. Japanese people get the poverty meal version, foreigners get the extra meat nonsense because they can afford it. It is because the japanese government has made the locals poor.
It’s all about the Likes, the Comments and the Subscribes.
Social media gave this generation’s attention-craving narcissists an always-on and instantaneous global platform those of previous generations would have killed for.
There is a weird little details in the shops post though where it specifies “based on a customers nationality”. Surely it would say “there is a no dual pricing”.
The reason I point that out is because usually the dual pricing is triggered by the “English menu” on ramen restaurants, not by the nationality of the customer
Why can’t restaurants just give the same menu in two different languages?
They attempt to pre-think how foreigners are going to order, and highlight (or show) different foods and change the menu around… show prices in different formats… just put the same thing, with the same layout.
That kinda sucks, despite the effort of making English menu someone still going to twist it.
I never thought about this extent of possible damage, up until now I only thought just mere communication inconveniences.
If some restaurant straight up want to play safe and banning all foreigners from coming to their restaurant then that’s understandable then.
Dual pricing does happen, usually popular restaurants. Happened to me in kyoto soba restaurant where they added a bowl of rice for the english menu for the tenzaru set. My wife had the english tenzaru set with extra rice while i had the japanese one without rice(She insisted). They justify the pricing by adding extra items. Same thing happened in a popular local ramen chain in Kobe.
This should have been obvious with the video creator being Korean. Hope they sue him.
If you guys comb through his videos you guys would realize he definitely has a bias against Japan and China. I’m not Korean so I don’t really have an opinion on this, but he previously mentioned how the Japanese people committed heinous crimes against Koreans and how people aren’t aware of all their violence towards the Korean minority in Japan.
I watched this video out of curiosity and it was so annoying. They obviously can’t speak or read Japanese so why the hell did they ask to ‘compare menus’.
They seemed pretty negative about various things throughout the video tbh, so I think they were just looking for something else to complain about.
There are definitely some places doing the ‘foreigner fee’ these days, but this doesn’t seem to be one of them. I feel bad for them.
