“She was given an immense mandate with a two-thirds majority for her own party, so there should have been nothing to obstruct her policies and no need to extend the Diet session, which they have just done,” said Michael Cucek, a professor of Asian Studies at Temple University’s Tokyo campus.
According to Cucek, Takaichi has failed to get her “key policy ducks in a line”, her credibility has been “eaten away by her obsequiousness” to US President Donald Trump and she has focused on fringe issues that may have pleased the far-right but have done nothing to improve the lives of ordinary people.

She was elected on the platform of „I’m a woman“ and „I’m totally not like the past 5 leaders of the LDP“ (her politics are near identical to them). I’m honestly surprised she lasted this long
Japanese politics is a joke. Why would she be any different?
Gender equality at its best.
Yen is crashing and she worries about desecrating the flag and preventing a female emperor. She should be escorted out of the Diet, eyes bleary from not sleeping enough, right onto a plane bound for Mar-a-Lago. Then she can dance her nights away.
Who would have thought a bunch of conservative populist drivel would be unpopular
„Blown it“ but still unable to provide an alternative instead of her
her party gain supermajority and opt to crash it instead of doing something actually useful.
I’m new to Japanese politics. I’ve been here for about as long as she has been.
At what point do talks of resignation become more prevalent and likely?
Japan abt to crash out and turn into a shitty gambling state with a shady sex tourism industry.

Japanese conservatives are joke
There is a saying in my language
The higher we fly the harder we crash
A couple more of weeks and we’ll hear „burn the witch“ be chanted around?
Repealing the bike laws would help to get people on side these are the most oppressive cycling laws in the world and are putting cyclists that in the main can’t afford to own a car in the eyeshot of bored policeman. They should be focusing on poor drivers and real criminals..
What policies did she actually run on and has she succeeded in applying them or not?
Japanese people: vote for super conservatives
Super conservatives: make super conservative policies
Japanese people: *surprised Pikachu face*
