This pro-russian government hates us, ordinary citizens of Georgia. Onise is the nicest and kindest person.

Comedian Onise Okriashvili was physically assaulted in the street by three men. The group of comedians which Onise is part of (and which is openly anti-goverment) had been targeted by pro-government media and troll accounts over two jokes they made during their standup: one about the beloved Georgian writer Nodar Dumbadze – deliberately taken out of context to make it look like they were insulting him, when in reality it was the opposite – and another about elderly street vendors, which was, in my opinion, in poor taste, but nowhere near something that could have caused this.

This isn’t the first time media have gone after anti-government comedians. Just a few weeks ago, they launched a similar campaign against one of the biggest comedy YouTube channels in the country, trying to publicly demoralize them.
