Bold of them to assume I *have* memory skills. ADHD makes remembering that stuff next to impossible.

For someone with ADHD and maladaptive dreaming, it is either weaken memory or weaken life.

Oh well. I’m stuck in my ways and not changing any time soon.

It’s because our memories can’t handle all the events we want to remember that we use reminders.

I was going to respond commenting about the obviousnessof this post but after the numerous notifications that saying”d” “u” “h” would likely get this removed. All I will say is that much like any scientific breakthrough of research that ends up with a theory or law, these theorys start out with educated hypotheses. An idea that might be 100% true but there is not gathered empirical evidence on it. This is one of thise times.

I remember having memorized 10+ telephone numbers. Now I barely remember my own.

Believe me, my ability to remember things needed *no* help to become as bad as it is. That’s the whole reason I started using a reminder program in the first place.
Anecdotally, I’ve been using it for like 20 years and haven’t noticed any worsening of that ability when I actually try to remember something. It just keeps me from forgetting things I would have otherwise, and I’ve had plenty of times where the reminder pops up and I just go, „Yeah, yeah, I know.“
> In fact, in the second experiment, when the reminders were made even more explicit, performance on the non-offloaded memory task actually worsened.
TBH, this part sounds like the „reminders“ just became distractions.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong (I can’t access the study), but it sounds like the reminders were *constant* rather than anything a normal reminder program would provide, which seems like it wouldn’t work at all for measuring how real reminders affect memory.

Cool. How about all the micro plastics in my brain that probably can’t be helping either…..
