JA also owns the storage facilities used to hold the reserve rice and guess what?? Surprise surprise they charge the government a decent chunk of money to store it. When Ishiba allowed Koizumi to release the reserves, JA was crying about the possibility of losing money if some of the facilities they owned weren’t storing rice.
They are absolute parasites.
More foreigners than ever in Japan, rice price now falling. The government should congratulate themselves for preventing foreigners from eating all the rice.
So people actually pay twice: first their taxes are used to buy the surplus, then they overpay for unnecessaryly expensive rice. Nice!
