God i wish
Mexico already began construction

I wish we weren’t so stubborn. I don’t know why rail is so hated.
I live in DC so the metro is essential to my week.
I feel the Cascadia line should at least go down to Eugene
Are we using the revenues from the World Cup to pay for it? Make FIFA pay for it!
You’re not gonna have one connect the coasts?
about to drive 12 hours to visit home, would be nice to be sleeping on a train instead
New Orleans feels like a risky place to have such a load-bearing connection. Besides the catastrophic sinking over the coming decades, a single hurricane could shut down rail traffic between Texas and the eastern seaboard. What if instead of Memphis being a terminus, you connected TN to AR with a study bridge, and made NOLA a terminus instead?
Texas alone is bigger than Spain, get a grip
Lol, fuck Arkansas.
God damn stop posting this everywhere
Appreciate the inclusion of Athens!
When I went to Spain in the early aughts, I thought they were decades ahead of us in public transport. We didn’t get anywhere close to where they were in 20 years.
The California part is basically the route of the high speed rail project, and the Vegas route looks like the brightline proposal.
Makes me want to go play ticket to ride… and then cry, because this will never happen.
Why no KC-Denver-Provo-Sacramento line? Is it something about the engineering or cost?
Connecting Utah to Vegas would be hilarious
Though maybe not as funny once you realize the Mormons own half of Vegas
You ever been to the northeast? Because you’d be taking down some peoples homes on that route.
Lol at Tybee getting its own station
Just follow I70 the whole way.
These just never make any sense. Nobody is going to travel from Houston or Dallas by train to Chicago via Wichita, Lawrence, and St Louis. Why would anybody turn a 2.5hr flight that costs $200 round trip into what looks like a 10hr journey each way?
Why aren’t Anaheim and San Diego directly connected? And why not an offshoot rail up to Flagstaff?
This would be a decent start. To anyone nitpicking, if you wait until perfection to launch, it’ll never leave the ground (yes, I know it’s a hypothetical map)
South Bend-Toledo? To what end?
Nothing transcontinental and no link between Sacramento and Portland?
Out of curiosity, how long would the theoretical trip from Houston to Chicago take, +/- 50% ?
So the Spanish way is just ignoring large parts of the country?
Lines paralleling I-75 and I-70 (and other major corridors) would make too much sense.
People are not against rail. They are against the massive costs in building it. The economics just don’t work for passenger rail in the U.S., high speed or otherwise.
Let’s see how it works out for California. If they make it work, maybe others will follow suit.
Would be cool if they just combined the 2 to join east and west coast. This sounds familiar 😒
Ain’t nobody is taking a train to Pueblo
Is everyone gonna just ignore how big the US is to feed your narrative? Texas alone is bigger than Spain. This project isn’t feasible at all
Why would San Diego not connect to Anaheim?
Beautiful idea. You need to thread one through Appalachia as well north-south but that’d be a luxury maybe. Just takes the money and political will power to do it. To be fair it would take a shit ton of capital to do this. I mean you could try and use it as a sort of economic stimulus to gain some tax returns to offset the cost. We’re already in so much debt as it is. It would be very cool though. It would sure as shit make my life easier
Lots of these don’t make sense but… the Texas triangle of Houston-Dallas-Austin-San Antonio is ideally spaced and has the needed population to make them work.
Sadly, Texas loves oil and gas too much to make it happen.
I wish it didn’t have to be a fantasy, every time I visit Spain I get so jealous of the Renfe
Love the idea but why not connect Columbus and Pittsburgh and St Louis and Indianapolis. Would also do a lot to connect all the other cities along these routes.
No maritimes 🙁 lol
The Colorado line just got announced: https://coloradoconnector.com/. Still some votes need to pass for part of the line, but we should start seeing it within the next 3-5 years.
What?…, no Tahoe? /s
Is there a chance the track could bend?
some of these are already in progress, although maybe not quite as fast
I live in Phoenix and I will vote YES on that!!
Lol a high speed rail stop in Red Deer. 😂
It would be stupid expensive and an economic boondoggle because of three inter-related factors:
1. America is massive for one country and 110-220 mph is *slow* for all the hassles involved in station-to-station travel compared to aircraft.
2. Americans primarily like to live in big homes in the suburbs – the last mile inconvenience for such a slow form of travel will not be suffered lightly.
3. On road trips, rest stops in America have conveniences that are unparalleled – that’s why gas stations like Buccee’s thrive here.
Love the idea of a high speed rail, but this has got to be one of the most poorly designed ones I’ve seen. You skip the Fayetteville AR metro of 625k and the Little Rock AR metro of 770k just to jut out to Wichita Kansas and other smaller metros. That Memphis to Tulsa connection adds 1.6m+ people vs the 800k one through Kansas and cuts distance for what would be a lot of travelers.
That also prevents any traffic going to Texas from having to chose between going around Arkansas through Kansas or Louisiana for no good reason.
Also, may as well connect Lethbridge south of Calgary. That’s pretty flat and empty.
There are just a lot of poorly optimized routes in this design.
extend las vegas to St. George and then from there to provo. You zould go from Logan to LA in 6 hours! It’s usually 11 to 12
