Every time you pay a bill or buy anything now. It costs more because of a Trump voter. (I refuse to talk politics in public) A co worker was complaining about the price of everything and fuel. I said that I not only didn’t care but didn’t not want to hear his complaints.
His reply was that I must have lots of extra cash laying around. To which I replied that I didn’t care because I didn’t vote for this mess. I know he voted for Trump three times.

It’s hard to imagine a belated moral awakening after everything they supported up to this point, but fear of social consequences for their choices could be the driver.

I have a certain family member who likes to gripe about „politicians,“ blaming them all equally for the crimes of the one I’m pretty sure she voted for. I chime in to say, „lots of politicians are sketchy, but this problem was created by the MAGA Republicans.“ That usually ends the complaining, which is fine by me.

They don’t care if they are hated by others. They might care if a loved one hates them but outside of that it doesn’t matter to these people what others think of them. There is a pattern. MAGA see any rules, laws, or regulations that are designed to protect people as oppression. Stay 6’ away, wear a mask or socially isolate to protect grandma was viewed by MAGA as oppressive. „Don’t tread on me“ is what they said. „The government can’t tell me what to do.“ I heard that so much during COVID. Masked men shooting innocent people in the streets. The don’t treat on me people started saying, “just show them your papers and comply.” Rules, laws, and regulations that are designed to hurt or oppress people in a different group are viewed as justice. Rules for thee not for me.
These people don’t care about justice, fairness, economy, or the opinions of others.
MAGA has found a version of authority that allows them to justify doing harm to others. This is all they wanted, and they will justify whatever they have to in order to keep this.

MAGA used to crowd this corner by the mall in my area every Saturday and wave their flags and make a big scene. Now it’s down to 1-2 guys who started protesting against the Governor and all but ditched trying to support Trump. Must not have liked getting told to fuck off each weekend. Just one way I noticed the tide has turned.
I think they do, they just aren’t convinced that there’s a good reason, AKA anyone complaining is just flat out wrong. I mean just look at some of the people on Reddit itself who still vehemently defend Trump or current conservative politics. I think a lot of them, especially the ones who are tuned in, know exactly what the country thinks about them and they don’t care. Some of them, especially the young men, see themselves like Christian crusaders and it makes sense. They know that they are fighting against a horde of people who don’t share their beliefs, but they feel so strong in their convictions that any actions they take to enforce their beliefs on the masses are justified.
Edit: I keep thinking about the short story „The Things“ by Peter Watts more and more as I listen to Republicans. The story is told from the perspective of the alien from *The Thing.* The alien sees itself as the savior of humanity because it’s bringing them into „communion“ with its connected biomass, since, if you recall, the alien kills and then absorbs life forms so it can mimic them. But obviously the humans resist, and the alien is absolutely disgusted that the humans have independent thoughts and don’t want to be part of its community. And then the story ends with this line that is a little extreme but my mind wanders to it when I hear some of the online right ranting about the state of the world: *“These poor savage things will never embrace salvation. I will have to rape it into them.“*

I just came back from the Pensacola area where you can tell it’s a red area because there were precisely zero pride flags or merch of any sort to be seen. But there was also no Trump or MAGA crap anywhere. At all. Period.
The best I saw was pickup with a chunk of its bumper missing and right above that a faded sticker claiming Biden was the cause of high gas prices. I was entertained and pointed it out to my wife.
It’s very cathartic to watch videos of trump supporters going abroad and seeing how utterly hated they are in the rest of the world.

There was just an article posted on Reddit yesterday or the day before that showed support for Trump is waning amongst the uneducated, and it’s down to 41% approval. But that’s still a lot. America is stupid overall. Many of these people, who even don’t support Trump any more, wouldn’t vote Democrat or change their overall views.
I think it’s wishful thinking to believe that America will change. The South is still stupid Republican and „anti-woke“, whatever the hell that really means. A number of people in Texas were sentenced to decades in prison for antifa conspiracy. There is no antifa. It doesn’t exist. Roe vs Wade was basically overturned. Police can arrest your property without a warrant and without charging you with a crime. So the fourth amendment is dead. We have constitutional free zones around all borders where you have no constitutional rights to due process. We spend far more on paying interest on the debt than we do on education. Our roads are crumbling. Our universities are profit centers. Minimum wage hasn’t risen in decades. We have no national healthcare system.
The Republicans and Democrats are simply unable to move the country forward as every political decision is mired in religious arguments and debates about socialism.
Sorry, I don’t have any faith in this country changing and the MAGA mindset is still strong.
