That presumption is wrong. Judging from online comments, women (aside from those twitter activists) are equally or often even less sympathetic toward kyaba, girls bar, or streamer girls who scam men when something bad happens to them.
Think of it with the genders reversed: men are less sympathetic when something bad happens to host club guys. Women are the same.
You all are forgetting how he tried taking her to court multiple times and the courts refused to see the case? So yes he should be punished but the government failed this man until he reached a breaking point.

Rather than saying „he’s the victim too“, it’s more like „she’s not a completely guiltless victim“. Putting the case as unbiased as possible, one can just reword the case title as „Murderer was sentenced to 16 years for stabbing scammer 55 times on the body after they refused to return money despite court orders“.
How do you justify stabbing someone 55 times? Once is already bad enough.
Imagine the victim and murderer were both men. Would anyone be surprised with someone getting revenge after being so terribly ripped off and being at your wits end? What does gender have to do with it?
I don’t know why this is such a big problem for some people. He is a piece of shit who murdered a woman. She was a piece of shit who took advantage of him to get money. She ruined his life. Did she deserve to die? No! But if you do the crime sometimes the crime or worse comes back to you. People have been murdered over money since money was first introduced. It’s not a new story. Still didn’t deserve it but my sympathy is pretty limited for both of them.

Because the dead woman was a literal scammer who took his life savings, after he tried his best to do the correct thing and take her to court a case he WON by the way the court ORDERED her to give his money back, to which she basically said fuck you and shuffled the money around so to not give any of it back, a court case mind you where both sides were heard probably victim statements showing how much his life got ruined to which she had 0 remorse or regret for, even after knowing all the facts she still refused to give the money back showing her to have blatantly 0 empathy or regret and I would bet my life saving would have done this to other men if she had another chance. push enough people and some will fight back you can only push someone in a corner far enough before they think their life is done and there’s no going back and sadly this guy did the ultimate act of killing her not saying it’s right but you can’t go around stealing life savings and ruining their lives without thinking someone might kill you plain and simple. Based on my understanding, he was a victim in a separate previous crime where the accused was Mogami Ai.
But then he went and committed premeditated murder of Mogami Ai as revenge for that separate crime and whatever other motivations were in his twisted head.
One can sympathize with him on what happened to him BEFORE he ever made the decision to murder this girl (and there are many reasons to also not sympathize with him too). But any amount of sympathy flies out the f’in window as soon as you factor in what he did in response.
From a western perspective, we have many cases where a man or woman has been cheated on, financially taken advantage of, you name it.. And when that person commits murder in response UNLESS there was severe physical and/or sexual abuse to them or a child, there is nowhere near the amount of sympathy people have for this Japanese man. This is definitely being driven by incel-types.
