Auf Japanisch gibt es ein Wort für „wenn Ihr Mann Sie krank macht“ – 夫源病 (fugenbyō), wörtlich „vom Mann verursachte Krankheit“, ein Begriff, der stressbedingte Symptome beschreibt, die bei manchen Frauen auftreten, wenn sie mit ihrem Mann zusammenleben, insbesondere nach der Pensionierung.

      after the guy retires for the wife it probably becomes a forced quiet 24h/7days a week slave with a husband that more than probably cheats or prowls on the side, with much less freedom on her side because he is always home

      Have they considered marrying someone they actually like instead of marrying them as a retirement sponsor?

      I get that the article is also meant as a teaching tool for people who are learning Japanese but it is really hard to read.

      About the actual content, I’m not surprised, especially with the old generation. Men devoted their life to the company with the wife taking care of everything family related. Long work hours made it difficult to build or maintain social connections and after retirement these men lose their identity and purpose.

      I feel sorry for them and can see why many keep working until old age (in addition to financial reasons).

      Japanese news sources are always making up words and pretending it’s a thing. Google Trends shows it was made up between 2010 and 2015. Random word 水俣病 (Minamata disease) ranks much higher.
