      They didn’t just send one train down that track, on the longer version of the clip I saw, there was another train coming the other way which was why this one was stopped in the first place.

      Here in BC I feel like we are spoiled with BC Wildfire Services. From the people I’ve talked to I get the impression that the MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) is woefully unable to perform at even a fraction of the capability of BCWS.
      I’d be looking harder at the MNR than I would at CN, railway was just operating as business as usual and was not notified of a major shift in wildfire. They aren’t responsible to monitor wildfires. They should be looking to a government agency to provide timely updates and forecasts.

      They’re still doing it. I know an engineer who, very recently, was directed to pick up a train in an evacuation zone with an out-of-control wildfire. He is apparently deemed to be an essential worker.

      The wildest part is that these guys could get fired for using their phones at work.

      The same liberal government that forced striking C.N. rail workers back to the job? Yeah nothing will come of it

      Knowing the government, they’ll order them back to work for any thought crime of them striking or attempting to negotiate better working conditions such as not going straight through a raging wildfire. Bonus points if you reprimand the employees for taking videos of what could be the last moments of their lives because it’s against company policy.
