These adversarial clothes with special patterns could catch on fast as cameras spread. Privacy worries are real and fashion makes a good visible push back. Not foolproof tho experts say.
Bigger labels might copy the idea and shift street style quick. Or it gets banned if it works to well. With surveillance growing this could become more common on the streets over time.
They are one software / ai model update away from being rendered useless.

Last time I bought glasses I needed to spend a few more dollars for free shipping. I added a reflective IR coating that is specifically meant to screw with facial recognition, but I don’t know how well it works.
We’re likely to see sabotage more than anything. Any disguise more complex than „face mask and sunglasses“ is beyond the effort most people are willing to put up, but it only takes one pissed-off kid with a can of spray paint to make everybody safe from surveillance.
Which is why they’re gonna start hiding the cameras.
I am 95% confident that this kind of merch is used by AI corps to have people generate adversarial datased they can use to refine models on.
Adversarial attacks are counterproductive if you want to hurt AI development, more adversarial examples make future models better.
The real captcha wars are about to being; are you human or are you fugitive ?
Its not going to be faces, it will be walk cadence and posture and a million other metrics about someone they wont be able to change that these AI cameras can pick out
Load a photo into ChatGPT, ask it what’s going on in the photo. It’s pretty good. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than it was two years ago and in two years it’ll be better still. You’re not getting past it with a funny shirt.
By contrast I tried to use some open source image recognition software for my nature camera and it kept telling me that hedgehogs were bears, or footballs.
I’m torn on the future implications to be honest. On the one hand, the bosses can and will murder you if you get in the way, that’s how power works. They don’t need this technology to do it. On the other hand this technology does kind of make it all easier.
I don’t know. Can this kind of surveillance have positive implications in any way? I mean there are legitimate law enforcement benefits, we seem them in the UK all the time, cameras catch bad people doing bad things all the time (they even film themselves sometimes).
Pretty soon we’re all going to be walking around in public like we are dressed for an Eyes Wide Shut Party.
In the future, we are all gonna walk funny and carry a laser pointer.
So I have been interested in adversarial clothing for over a decade now.
The issue I’m finding , and that was glaringly obvious from the start, is that the pattern or active technology that defeats image recognition makes it incredibly obvious for humans. We are talking outrageous patterns, complex facial makeup, infrared lighting that blinds but lighting up whatever control panel a human would be using ….
There’s just hiding your face with a mask sure but …then your wearing a mask, and like others have said, they use ir so your mask has to block that and that can trigger another type of alert.
This fascist slide we are seeing world wide is the product of just a few people , their In the loop network extending to maybe a couple thousand.
