Author here. Data: FAA UAS Sighting Reports — public-domain quarterly releases of pilot/ATC drone reports, 2019–2026 (the FAA itself published nothing from mid-2022 to late-2023, so that dip is the source, not the drones; totals are a floor). Tools: Node pipeline into SQLite, city geocoding via OpenFlights, rendered with Leaflet on a CARTO/OSM dark basemap. Bubble AREA is proportional to reports per city; contiguous U.S. shown (San Juan PR, 44 reports, off-frame).
Biggest surprise: how concentrated it is — the New York and Chicago corridors light up far beyond everything else.
