    1. How about we all just stop caring about what they think? Our outrage fuels them. Don’t give them a thought.

    2. HotelPuzzleheaded654 on

Didn’t it drive them nuts as soon as they saw the trailer?

      “Fictional character wasn’t black!!!! 🤬”

    3. randohipponamo on

Who cares. They get their power from outrage culture. We need to learn to ignore them like the irrelevant edge lords they are.

    4. Woke post, woke liberal Fox News, everyone are paid shills, the critics, the audiences, the theaters, my wife, my neighbor, the barista at my local coffee shop, my wife’s divorce lawyer, everyone is getting paid!!!! Just follow the paper trail.

no doubt the movie is great, but is driving the right wing into a frenzy especially difficult?

    6. It already has

Asked a coworker today if he was going to see it and he stated „He’s boycotting the woke propaganda“🤣🤣🤣🤣

These are the same people that couldn’t handle a black stormtrooper and a female Doctor Who.  It’s the same old tired tune.  They want attention and the best thing we can do is ignore them.

Articles like this make the left v right shite so much worse.

I fucking hate the cast and art direction but I know the film will still be a 9/10 at the very least.

    9. Thats a weird take. I saw on another post that Ben Shapiro thought it was great. Isn’t he right-wing?

    10. It’s a great director with a great cast and what I’ve heard is a great movie. Almost everyone will love it.

    11. My god these “my side vs your side” culture war articles are just so ridiculous at this point.

People become journalists to report on stuff like this?

    12. HowdTheCatGetSoFat on

I feel like this whole campaign is inorganic. Like certain youtubers trying to crawl out from obscurity by making a push for another „culture war“…. I really could care less, though. Watch it or don’t.

    13. I’m so confused…I am a critical fan of Nolan, and am skeptical of this film living up to hype, but it honestly feels like a psyop “hearing” about MAGA in relation to criticism. I know it exists, I just don’t understand how having criticisms of this film are getting blanketed in with MAGA naysayers.
I think I’m mostly frustrated with IMAX and other technical factors that seem to outweigh the realistic experience most audiences will have.
I didn’t understand the IMAX component for Oppenheimer, and felt like framing and photography were wasted.

I just watched it. Fantastic movie. It’s gonna make a shit ton of dough.

I’m so tired of these articles. Nobody is „going completely insane.“

The „backlash“ was mostly just a handful of tweets and comments, amplified by pop culture websites looking for clicks. Nothing new. Entire articles are built on cherry-picked opinions from anonymous internet accounts and a few influential figures. There would have been no outrage if the comments hadn’t been amplified outside the Twitter/Reddit bubble.
Anyone could have predicted the success of a Nolan movie.

Outrage drives clicks, and when there isn’t any, you create it.

The right wing says eating poop is bad let’s eat poop to own Le chuds guys

Is this like an ad for the left to go see the Odyssey?

We are truly living in a time of journalism.

    18. No it won’t.

      It’s an enjoyable movie.

Stop culture war bullshit click bait please

    19. This sort of article seems like left hyperbolic clickbait to me. There was definitely hyperbole on the right regarding the castings, etc. but a lot of moderate conservatives/centrists (content creators and normal people like myself) understood it could still be a great movie and said as much. The left unfortunately labels anyone not in lock step with their belief system a bigot and overreacts to legitimate concerns regarding things like race/gender swapping.

The castings that we were concerned with ending up having much more minimal roles than originally believed, and the movie is supposedly pretty good, so it’s fine. I’m going to see it tomorrow.

    20. I know MAGA Republicans that have seen and loved it. Click bait engagement is stupid.

    21. aviateflyingfortress on

Weird; I’m just not interested in seeing all the celebrities pat themselves on the back like it’s the Oscar’s.

    22. SWAGLORDRTZ on

the same person would have been driven nuts if a cannonically black character was cast as a white person this is just feeding the culture war machine.

    23. Inevitable_Ad_4487 on

The thing about the right wing is they can’t process direct satire let alone nuance… I mean it took them 4 seasons of The Boys; a direct commentary on trumpism and they still barely got it through their thick skulls that the show was about them… so doubtful. But if more articles like this come out maybe they will pick up on it… or at least the literate ones

    24. uhmactuallyurwrong on

It’s literally articles like this that got Trump elected. You Americans just can’t seem to quit focusing on the wrong people. Your all so addicted to outrage you have given the power to the very people you are angry at.

I remember when some angry nerd posting on the forum was just that. 1 person with a dumb opinion. Now look at where you all are. You’ve given these people all the power, all the attention and you have no one but yourselves to blame.

    25. PuzzleheadedEssay198 on

      Going to?

They’ve been steadily losing their shit about the movie for two goddamn years.

    26. Basil-Faw1ty on

I feel like there’s more articles about how it’s supposedly driving the right wing insane than I see anyone actually caring about it. Like that’s the whole marketing push for this thing. Nobody seems to be talking about it in the real world.

    27. bugabooandtwo on

Seems like they’re banking on the faux controversy to get people to watch the film.

And people are falling for it….again.

    28. MonthlyWeekend_ on

Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of *The Odyssey* isn’t out in theaters til Friday, but it’s already the film that launched a thousand tweets. For months, conservatives like Elon Musk have been having [racist tantrums](https://www.vanityfair.com/news/story/elon-musk-christopher-nolan-the-odyssey) about Nolan’s decision to cast Oscar winner [Lupita Nyong’o](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/09/lupita-nyongo-cover-story)as Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the ancient world. They’re also in a transphobic tizzy about Nolan casting *Inception* star [Elliot Page](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/04/elliot-page-finally-feels-able-to-just-exist) as a Greek soldier. But angry as they were about a rumor that Page would play Achilles, the mythic hero with a bum heel, they’re going to be furious about his actual role in the film—assuming they see it at all. They’re not going to like the greater message of Nolan’s *Odyssey,* either.

That’s it. That’s the entire article in full.
