    1. From the article

Job losses spurred by the AI boom are growing, and a group of economists is now sounding the alarm that it’s going to get worse.

A new group called We Must Act Now released an open letter on Monday, warning about „AI’s transformation of the economy.“ The open letter is signed by more than 200 economists, and signees currently include sixteen Nobel Laureates, Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and the chief economists of both OpenAI and Anthropic.

    2. But the AI CEOs just started saying that AI will create MORE jobs!!!

Were they lying before? Or now?

    3. *More* AI job losses are coming ??????

This implies there are significant AI job losses already, but that simply doesn’t match reality.
The US unemployment rate in the last 3-4 years is flat and very low, way below the historical averages. It’s the same in the EU, no change since AI became a thing.

Interestingly, professions considered most at risk of AI replacement, such as software engineers, radiologists etc. see a notable increase in job openings – ~15% more for software development jobs YoY.
Radiologists (which, according to the likes of these 200 ‚economists‘ should have been completely replaced by now) are in acute shortage.

      Stop spreading AI hysteria.

    4. Only C suite morons could possibly not see the massively expensive nightmare that replacing employees with AI is going to bring. The more people they fire, the more they rely on AI, and the more AI costs them. Once AI companies see that they have these morons by the balls, they jack up the cost the same way every streaming service has on consumers. It won’t take long for AI to cost more than the employees they fired for lower quality work than what humans would have done. Even if AI was fully capable of replacing human workers for cheaper, who the hell do these morons think are going to buy their products and keep the economy running when everyone is unemployed.

AI should be an assertive tool meant to make certain tasks for efficient and cut down on unecessary tedious crap (i.e.summarize long email chains so you dont have to read a book trying to figure out what they what from you).

    5. That was the promise.

The more AI can do, the more jobs can be removed.

It is a labor removeing tool, it’s not a job creation tool.

Anyone who has used AI knows this, it removes labor and makes tasks easier.

No worries. Because we the workers own a portion of the means of production, the increase in productivity will accrue to us and we’ll have leisure and freedom.

    7. Can’t wait for AI to spike up their prices. The investors gotta demand their return eventually.
