      The article:

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has revealed that he received calls “suggesting” that Sen. Mitch McConnell was actually dead during his weeks-long hospitalization.

Beshear, a Democrat, tells Katie Couric that he received two different calls from “agencies” that led him to believe that the 84-year-old McConnell was no longer alive—prompting him to demand answers for Kentuckians who were left in the dark about his weeks-long disappearance.

“It had been a month before anything had been put out, not even an official statement from Senator McConnell,” he said. “In fact, I’d gotten two calls from different agencies—not state agencies—suggesting he’s passed.”

Those calls came before McConnell’s team posted a photo of him in his hospital bed on Sunday, smiling next to his wife, Elaine Chao, and gripping the morning edition of The Washington Post’s sports section.

Chao, who has faced scrutiny over a trip to China during the Kentucky senator’s hospitalization, was spotted leaving the rehabilitation center where McConnell was recovering this week. The former transportation secretary was wearing a mask, dark sunglasses, and a long, seemingly heavy trench coat.

McConnell’s staff has declined to provide details about the rehabilitation facility or what it specializes in. It is in Washington, D.C., which was facing record-breaking heat at the time, making Chao’s bundled appearance all the more eyebrow-raising.

Can the American political media – especially Daily Beast – forever dispense with the term “Bombshell”?

This is not a bombshell. Bombshells have impact. Discovery of the Watergate tapes was a bombshell. This? Won’t cost Republicans one vote, and it certainly won’t cost them an R Senate seat.

Clickbait headlines only work because enough people are foolish enough to click them and buy into this catnip garbage.

    3. They are *so* close to having his lab-grown replacement ready. Just need a few more days.

Why this is important, Gov Beshear can put a (Dem) replacement in if McConnell actually is dead. But you say that Kentucky’s legislature changed the law in 2024? It’s actually in the Kentucky constitution, so it would be a legal matter, not definitive.

Beshear needs to call an election, it’s what republicans would do. Stop fucking being nice.

Weekend at Bernie’s is supposed to be a movie, not real life ffs 🤦

I for one I’m starting to think it was a “test” for when the big day comes.

Is it possible for a journalist to investigate this? I mean, are there sources that can talk off the record? Are people working in the hospital where he’s at? I feel like this is beyond crazy at this point in 2026, like walk over there and check.

    9. Bro you are the governor, it’s time to go in person to the hospital to check.

    10. TheMoorNextDoor on

So he’s either gone or vegetable.

The governor needs to do his job and call that election.

the “he’s dead” part isn’t the conspiracy

the “i spoke with mitch for 20 minutes and he’s recovering quickly” IS the conspiracy

    12. So, if it turns out he’s been dead or brain dead the whole time, will anything happen to all those perpetuating the lie?

    13. fizzzingwhizbee on

Dead? I just talked to my old bud super senior senator Mitch McConnell on the phone for 20 min

Yall use the word bombshell too often. If everything’s a bombshell, nothings a bombshell.

    15. Take depositions from all people involved. If after August 3rd he’s found to be incapacitated or dead then those who push this tale should be tried as appropriate.

    16. boomerangthrowaway on

Think about this… if it’s true, our own republican government knowingly falsified information and disseminated it amongst their constituents. They knowingly made false statements to countless entities who are forced to take X statements and other such communication as fact with this administration. It’s disgusting. If true, I hope that the people hold the entire party accountable for how we have run our political bodies and consider term limits and a refresher even of the entire congress and house… what we have now is not working as evidenced by *points everywhere*

    17. PansophicNostradamus on

Start the special edition and if Mitch is alive, he can run for office again. If not, well at least we’re doing our jobs, right Governor?

    18. Iztac_xocoatl on

He died, was resuscitate, and now has sever brain damage from oxygen deprivation. That’s my theary

    19. Ffs how is it a conspiracy? No actual video proof of life and blatantly coordinated responses from politicians?

In the day and age of instant communication you don’t get an excuse for this type of bullshit.
