    1. I kinda understand the frustration, but Elections Alberta cannot possibly be in the business of regulating whether people are able to advertise for generalized Canadian patriotism and unity messages that don’t make a reference to the referendum

It is very hard to argue generalized messages like that constitute partisan advertising, even when it is clear to everyone the intent of such messages.

    2. In fairness, the separatists got UPC sympathisers to de facto quash Forever Canada’s petition, leaving them still in a legal campaign position for their own question.

You can’t make a dirty pool and then complain the water’s murky.

I have zero sympathy for separatists. They asked for this. And now they are upset when the vague rules they created are used against them.

Pro-Canada group doesn’t have a position on the upcoming question. Seems logical. Just being pro Canada isnt advertising for people to vote one way or another.

Well, they want to leave Canada, so they don’t get the benefit of Canadian rules, regulations, and protections 🙂

    6. This is absolutely hilarious. Marlena Smith is constantly being hoist upon her own petard in her attempts to silence the pro-confederation voices in Alberta, and support the separatists.

I wasn’t tracking that the pro-Canada referendum question hadn’t been put on the ballot, which is a disgrace given that they met the requirements. However, that’s allowing for them to march straight through this massive loophole, and keep pushing their message, and argue, accurately/technically, that they aren’t part of the refendum advertising.

Marlena’s got a fork in front of her, and neither option is good for her. Curtail the remain campaign funding by putting them on the ballot, shooting her preferred separation question in the foot, or prevent them from getting an official count of their support, while allowing them to continue to push their message hard. Beautiful!
