What governments should do is ban these data centers
This should have been the bare minimum from day one.
He just forgot to say it must be clean energy. Otherwise they’ll gladly install dozens of gas turbines near their datacenters.
They gonna build a coal power plant next to each one?
Watch how quick they start scaling efficiency once they’re on the hook for their own useage.

Finally, a country doing the right thing around data centre energy use. Now they need to make sure it’s solar, wind and batteries doing the heavy lifting.
Does Australia have AI?
So apparently data center absolutely used problematic amount of electricity and water.
Yeah, those AI BS bros will find loopholes to get incentives instead when they are in cahoots with corrupt politicians. Same bros are already doing it with their taxes.
This is what should be considered necessary globally
If it’s like the US they’ll just buy existing power plants so they are producing power for themselves rather than buying off the grid. Which, of course, lowers overall power available to others.
See how easy it is America? If they can bill data centers, they can build solar farms.
So… double the pollution?
How about they must offset as much carbon as they produce instead?
And all the IP they already stole ?
And will that energy they produce be green or whatever ?

We don’t need AI data centers.
This shows capitalism failing, I think. The thing that uses power should pay enough for that power to be produced by another specialist power provider. The most basic exchange of goods and services isn’t even happening.
