Why does this seem like he is speaking out of both sides of his mouth? If we are splitting net revenue, and half goes to us and half goes to the US, then we are sharing it before all the debt is repaid. Is there other revenue from the bridge besides the toll?
Prediction: toll revenue will absolutely be shared before the debt is paid off. When that happens, and people point out it’s yet another case of Mark Carney saying one thing and doing another, his die-hard supporters will immediately pivot to explaining that he didn’t actually mean the literal words that came out of his mouth. It’ll all be „context,“ „nuance,“ and „at least he’s not Pierre.“
Yea the deal is to split the profits. But there’s no profit until the bridge is paid off with the revenue from the tolls. Which could take decades.
Debt payments do not hit the income statement. They are cashflow financing activities. The interest would be deducted in computing profits. As a banker he knows this, so the agreement will be interesting in how “net profits” are calculated
Last week he said the “net profit” will be shared.
Today, he said “net revenue” and then proceeded to give the definition of net profit.
He knows the difference.
If Carney is right Trump will probably not open the bridge when he finds out the US still get next to nothing on day 1.
My solution to this issue. Let NDP, Bloc and Green party read the new deal. Let them tell us how much this deal differs from the 2012 one
