Once again our super proactive approach to climate change has caught us with our pants down.
The federal government has ordered 0 water bombers since the last massive wildfire breakout in 2023.
Looking forward the excuses LPC makes to dodge accountability.
edit: gotta love Reddit logic
“It’s not a federal responsibility so they get a pass!!!!!! Who cares if communities are destroyed and people die! Our pragmatic PM is not to blame!!!”
This article is barely longer then a tweet. What do they want Canada to do, but them a bunch of fans to blow the smoke back north of the border?
Fuck Michigan. We had a good thing with them and they’ve voted to fuck us over twice. I’m glad they’re dealing with the same smoke.
Maybe they could send over some firefighters to help us for a change like we do for them? Food for thought.
Then in exchange, we demand that the US shut down all coal fire power plants and invest in renewables. Their CO2 emissions contributed more to this mess than ours did.
Michigan does everything in its power to prop up the Big Three, who have collectively given up on anything resembling electrification and have doubled down on ICE cars. Fuck em
The clown show to our south should be a sobering example of why it is imperative that this anti-intellectual, reactionary politics need to be decisively rejected here. Things like the Alberta separatists etc are all cut from this same cloth.
The 2026 right wing political machine is bent on putting the least qualified and, frankly, very unintelligent people in positions of power, everywhere possible. Why? Obviously because they are the easiest to manipulate and corrupt if youre a wealthy elite.
We go down this road in Canada at our own peril.
I mean, I kind of understand their frustration. It does kind of feel like nothing is really getting done. They are shaking their fists at our PM for this because they simply don’t have anyone else to shake their fists at.
The solution here is probably some kind of integrated North American forest fire fighting force – something that can pool resources from both the US and Canada to fight fires across the continent for fighting/preventing forest fires from California to Quebec. It should also probably be integrated into both the Canadian and US militaries if its going to also take charge of leading evacuations of cities/towns that get swept up in the infernos.
So, who else should they shake their fists at if not the PM? Its him and Trump who would have to design this.
Look, I am all pro shitting on the US right now for all the reasons in the world.
But we do have to be honest that our fire fighting capabilities are wofully inadequate. We have a fire season every year now. Have the provinces or the feds increased the budget in any noticable way?
This is government mismanagement and a lack of care, bsince people aren’t reacting. Maybe we should be a bit more pissed about this and demand action
Normally, I’d be like GTFO, but realistically Ford significantly cut the firefighting budget for wildfires, so yeah, we did fuck up a bit here.
We need to thank Doug Ford in part for this mess since he keeps cutting the fire fighting budget.
Canada needs serious climate change resilience and adaptation policies. Yes we need to emit less but the whole world needs to get behind that. Climate change is already here and will get worse. We need to set ourselves up to deal with the new climate reality.
Maybe we can employ thousands of Canadians (especially indigenous Canadians) to create a series or network of fire breaks throughout the boreal forest so that fires can only get to a certain size and give firefighters greater ground access.
As your neighbour in Ontario I am so DONE with the BS that comes out of your government! There are so many things that are wrong with the USA and yet Canada is ALWAYS the problem. I could type all day about how angry I am right now reading this headline! But, as usual they are not worth the effort! /rant over
How about Michigan send firefighters to help? As a Michigander I’d be happy to see my tax dollars spent this way.
For every 51st state joke, we will let the fires burn another week. The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Tell you what, you guys reverse America’s role as the world’s number one obstacle to slowing climate change, and will start raking our forests.
Oh the irony when the USA is directly responsible for a massive portion of global GHG emissions that are driving climate change and causing these extreme wildfires. Of course we need to do more ourselvesamd address our own emissions problems but Americans taking issue with us is just ridiculous.
As a Michigander, Canadians and Michiganders should be united on this issue. The fire and smoke hurts all of us, and I know I sure as hell don’t support my country’s additude towards climate change or your country. Our governor and representatives should be collaborating with your officials to repsond to this.
Or what? Going to threaten us with becoming the 51st state again? This is literally climate change caused by American industry. You can send us a check, thanks. Pfft.
This is so funny but really scary too. We’re not Ethiopia and Egypt. We gotta be smarter than this over ecological issues that go beyond our borders
I live in Michigan and our congressmen should keep their mouths shut. Canada dealt with acid rain from the u.s. for decades and we weren’t concerned. And it is not like this is a byproduct of their manufacturing. IT IS NATURE. And it is going to get worse with global warming…that pesky thing the Trumplican government denies existing.

We demand you so something about your climate policy which is causing global warming which is causing the wildfires
The blame game posturing is bullshit – managing wildfires is no easy task and letter such as this do nothing productive. Emotions are running high, due on large part to the disrespectful and unacceptable behavior of the current US administration and well as, a choking smoke for the 3rd or 4th year. That said, Canada has not taken any real steps towards seriously addressing this and has had years to increase its efforts. Provincial funding has been cut and the Canadian government still invests a fraction of what the US does into wildfire prevention which is also inadequate. And we’re not talking about numbers that only the US could afford, we’re talking numbers that could easily be afforded by the Canadian Government. With stewardship over 10 percent of the plantets forests, we should expect Canada to be a leader on this, and Americans have a right to be upset at that and ask for accountability. The US is certainly a mess right now, but the intense glare of that mess because of its superpower status shouldn’t detract from the mess that Canada is currently. A lack of global public attention and shock isn’t by itself, an indicator of Canada’s good or superior governance – this issue is proof of that. I hope after 2028, we can begin to repair our damaged relationship and work together on these types of issues that affect all of North America.
wait till winter comes and we get accused of invading the US with a blizzard. anything is a pretext for retaliation these days. South Parks needs a follow up to Blame Canada. apparently their politicians take political satire for political dogma
Canada demands they begin taking global warming more serious. We need to fight our own government to get their heads together.
When the USA has wildfires, Canada sends planes, trucks, and firefighters to help.
When Canada has wildfires, the USA sends strongly worded letters threatening invasion.
Well, we’re trying to move to less fossil-fuel reliance to prevent so many fires… but y’all are paying Talibertan Youtubers to demand pipelines or they’ll separate.
The US under Trump is trying to kill EVs and deleting climate info on government websites… and there’s a climate-change denier in charge of pretty much every department Trump controls.
You’ll get more fires if you ever succeed in black-opping ‘Bertie to separate…
