Ich bin stolz auf mein Land. Die norwegische Mannschaft hat bei der Weltmeisterschaft Geschichte geschrieben, sogar unsere Regierung hat sie gelobt. Wir sind froh, was unser Land dieses Jahr erreicht hat.
Ich liebe die Unterstützung und Aufmerksamkeit, die wir in letzter Zeit bekommen haben. Ich bin etwas besorgt über die Menge an Amerikanern hier. Wenn sie all die Posts sehen, in denen sie unseren Wikinger-Streit kopieren, behaupten einige Amerikaner, Norweger zu sein und unsere Kultur zu vergöttern, weil sie cool ist. Was denken Sie?

They are actually in most country’s subs. I don’t know why but they are everywhere.
Lots of Maga love Norway because they think we’re a bunch of Christian Aryan whites who keep a „pure“ culture.
We’re in reality a social democracy with a welfare state and 1/5 of our population comes from abroad. And we’re happier than American citizens by a mile in every survey.
Most people on Reddit are from the states…

Well, this is the English-speaking Norway sub. So, lots of foreigners with an interest in Norway will be here, whereas Norwegians will tend to go to r/Norge instead.
Also, as others pointed out, there’s just lots of Americans on Reddit in general.
I admit I’m from the states and love Norway. Was raised my whole life by my grandmother from Norway. I was steeped in the culture my entire life. Living in Minnesota, we have so many Norwegians that it feels like Norway is a part of us. I’m sure it gets fairly sensationalized in our minds here but for me, the connection reminds me of home and helps me feel like I have family despite not having it, if that makes sense.
Should we not like Norway? Your country is beautiful, you were fun in Boston, and a lot of us look up to you in renewable energy, forest conservation, and democratic socialist policies.
Curiosity and appreciation. I’m American and my own country is a total dumpster fire. It’s nice to read about other countries I’ve been curious about for years and see how things are. Also as someone who dreams of traveling I like to learn about the cultures I’d be visiting so as not to be one of those tourists.
I’m sure Haaland helped but there are genuinely many of us who have appreciated the idea of Nordic countries before that.
I lived in Norway for a few years and fell in love with it. Now I admire from afar!
People like its natural beauty and its progressive policies. But the biggest reason is a lot of Americans want to have some connection to the counties their ancestors came from.
I was a year long exchange student to Norway 30 years ago. Norway is amazing and I miss it. I went to the World Cup match in Miami supporting Norway.
Because I’ve been there to meet friends I know from games and stayed a month. It was eye-opening how fucked up the US is.
My grandfather emigrated from Norway and I subscribed to the sub right before taking a heritage trip in late 2023. My pronunciation sucks, but I wanted to practice reading Norsk before I arrived, and try to see what y’all like and loathe from tourists.
I stayed because I desperately want to go back, but not a lot of call for disabled Americans.

As an American, we’ve grown especially fond of y’all during the World Cup. It’s been so fun watching Norwegians show up to other sporting events in the US and do the Viking row. Everyone I know was rooting hard for Norway up until the very end. We really like you guys! Sorry, I know we’re probably not the fans you wanted given the state of the world, but I promise we’re not all bad!

I’ll give my opinion here, as an American who does love Norway, and has for my entire life. But also recognizes the current American culture of influencers. There is a very strong Norwegian community where I live, and also in the northern US states. There are Nordic Festivals, shops, etc. very strong Norwegian immigrant culture that is (was?) not that well known. But those who know it, love it and have loved it for decades. I feel what is being expressed here is why Americans love Norway “Now.” And the answer is three parts simply put: Media, Northern Lights, and FIFA. It will be a hot button for a bit, but will fade, as all TikTok trends do. As for audience in Reddit subs, I’d attribute similar for the FIFA wave, the wave of people enamored with the Aurora Borealis (also made trendy in social media), Norway stepped up and cultivated as far north as Kirkenes, etc., to be remote travel destinations. And it’s beautiful and peaceful and everything most humans desire, quite frankly.
There is a lot of people in the US. I see no real reason to be concerned though. In usa there seems to be some culture about herritage that we don’t care about, but lets not mind them being themselves as long as its not hurting anyone. Rather maybe they could take some inspirations from some good things we have here like cheap education and healthcare for the people.
My dad was really proud to tell me I was half “Scandinavian” via my mom and that’s why I came out tall & broad shouldered despite having brown hair/brown eyes. My sister had one of the countries’ flags in her room even though my understanding is our mother was a mix of different Scandinavian countries. I think a lot of people have similar stories.
Maybe it’s because we Americans enjoy people and cultures outside of the United States. And yes, many of us who do have Norwegian (as well as other parts of the world) ancestors are curious about the cultures that shaped them.
Many of us are even curious about cultures that none of our family came from.
