      The TetraSpar Demonstrator, developed by Stiesdal and located in Norway, has achieved a remarkable capacity factor of 63%. Since its commissioning in late 2021 at the METCentre, the demonstrator has been operational, delivering green energy, gathering data, validating numerical models, and supporting R&D projects.

      To date, the TetraSpar has generated over 37 GWh of renewable energy. Equipped with a 3.6 MW Siemens Gamesa direct-drive wind turbine, the site’s very high wind speeds contributed to this high capacity factor.

      **Advantages of Floating Wind Farms:**

      – **Optimal Wind Locations:** Floating wind farms can be placed in areas with the best wind conditions, regardless of water depth, enhancing efficiency.
      – **Higher Energy Output:** By being situated in optimal wind zones, floating turbines like TetraSpar can achieve higher capacity factors, as evidenced by its recent performance.
      – **Storm Resilience:** During extreme weather events, such as the “Ingumm” storm with wind speeds up to 38 m/s and wave heights exceeding 13 meters, TetraSpar maintained an average capacity factor of over 70%.

      The TetraSpar floating foundation, owned by Shell, Tepco, RWE, and Stiesdal Offshore, is based on Stiesdal’s Tetra technology. It is the world’s first industrially manufactured floating offshore foundation and can be deployed from shallow-water ports, offering significant logistical advantages.
