      Well, for once me we see a reasonable judge. Unexpected, but not unwelcome. Hopefully the ruling survives the inevitable appeal.

      Overall the judge says they aren’t making a blanket judgement on whether to transfer transgender inmates, and each case should depend on its unique circumstances.

      I do feel for some of these trans people. There are legit some trans people that should be in opposite prisons that would not be a bother at all. On the other hand, there are absolutely going to be people who would use the system to take advantage and be bad actors…

      This seems like a reasonable, justified, and clearly explained decision that takes into account the particulars of this particular criminal, weighs the danger they pose to other inmates and correctional facility staff, and balances that and the risk to other inmates and staff against rights.

      …What gives? This is way too sane for Canada 2026.

      There is something very disingenuous about this statement.

      I’m a Trans Woman that transitioned later in life. At every point of my life I have always fought for Justice for Women and Equality. That means laws that actually punish Sexual Assault. That means Law Enforcement, Judges, and Juries that actually believe Women.

      Transitioning Gender does not remotely change the quality of person you are. If you were a vile person prior to transitioning, chances are very high you’ll be a vile person after transitioning. Garbage in, garbage out.

      While I would like to have absolutely no sympathy for those that choose to hurt others, we do have obligations under the Charter to ensure that Offenders are safe while in prison. In this case, whatever the classification of the Building, whether it be a Men’s prison or Women’s prison is largely irrelevant. What matters is we fulfill the obligation under the charter for inmates to be safe while serving their sentence. If that obligation is better met by this offender being in a facility primarily meant for Men, so be it. That’s for the courts to decide. Had this person committed a white collar financial crime, then yeah, a transfer would have been reasonable. But sexual assault against another Woman? That’s a no.

      There is every type of person in this world. Any combination of traits/characteristics that could exist, does exist. I will never forget how horrified I was to learn about a group of Neo-Nazi White Supremacist Trans Women. Whatever your Gender/Orientation/Ethnicity/Religion/Disability Status or any other demographic, every demographic is capable of cruelty. Do not equate any particular demographic as „good“ or „evil“. We are all people equally capable of kindness, empathy, and love, or psychopathic cruelty.

      I’m sure everyone here would agree with the judge.

      This individual has a well documented history of violence towards women. Having read the article I think the judge was fair.

      Good for the judges. But think about this while in jail as a dangerous offender you can under go full gender surgery on the taxpayers dime. How messed up is that?

      I question how you are able to make the transition from behind bars though. I have no experience, but I feel like doing so should be pretty much impossible from the isolation of a jail cell. How did it get to the point where this person was allowed to have treatments for transitioning without anyone ever looking at why this person was there in the first place.. why are (I assume) our taxes being used to fund this? It costs 10s of thousands to through full reassignment surgery, which this person did 2 years ago according to the article despite being in prison for 25 years. Ridiculous.
