What percentage of those people would choose to live in China rather than in the US?
Not so much China’s improvement as it is America’s fumble.
I can understand this result. The one thing you can reliably expect from Trump is that you cannot reliably predict what he will do next.
Xi is hardly trustworthy, but his decisions are generally legible: they tend to follow the CCP’s strategic interests and long-term priorities. In international affairs, a predictable rival can feel safer than an unpredictable partner.
Will be interesting to see if attitudes shift back after trump is gone. People say all the time that the damage is irreversible, but people’s memories are often shorter than they realize.
I wouldn’t be surprised if China eventually did invade Taiwan and the „morally superior“ Europeans ended up blaming the US almost entirely for it.
How America went from respected global superpower in 2000 to where we are now had to be studied for generations
China never sponsored a coup d’etat in my country nor trained the torturers of the regime, unlike the US.
Predictability point is underrated. Most countries just want to know what they’re dealing with when they wake up, and constant tariff flip flops burn through goodwill fast.
Bad choice..
It’s interesting to see that China has changed its PR methods. Not long ago it was wolf warriors baiting Western countries, even on Reddit the subs with many CCP members were openly insulting and racist. A few months ago they said they had new MODs and the attitude changed.
There’s foreigners living in China that produce videos documenting their lives and thoughts. One made a video recently about a manhole he’d noted was misaligned and could result in an accident – then he said how wonderful China was because after he reported it, it was fixed within 2 hours. Another of these people was talking about the fact that there was no rubbish bin outside his son’s school and so there was rubbish on the pavement – a rubbish bin appeared by the next day.
China is doing a lot to create the impression that it’s highly functional and efficient.
I’m guessing that the operational profile for KRAZNOV was this. In exchange for Xi not taking over everything East of the Urals, Putin would run Trump so that China would overcome American soft power.
