As it should, the whole ‚competitive‘ pay on ads is embarrassing.

The issue i see, unless they add some sort of variance factor, is the salary being shown as 25k-60k a year and the company just lowballing as much as possible.

LinkedIn in London is plagued by job listings that demand specific experience and qualifications but will refuse to give a salary until the second interview (of which will probably be grossly subpar for the person they’re looking for). This sounds like it could be a step in the right direction…

    3. Good. This should also show companies that if they keep taking the piss more legislation will follow.

Pushing people through 3 rounds of interviews for a minimum wage job meeds to be next up.

The company you’re applying to should be mandatory too.

The idea it’s vague, especially via an agency, and you could potentially be applying for your own job is a disgrace. People have legit reasons to leave a job and applying for a job where you work makes staying until you find something untenable.

It may seem an unlikely scenario but I know someone it happened to and while he eventually found something and got out, it made for a very awkward two months while he was still there.

The job market is fucked in every way.

    5. Freaking finally.

It’s crazy that this hasn’t been been the case up until now.

      What it’ll be.

This role pays between 5000 and 300000, depending on experience and team fit.

Thank fuck for that. I hate the word competitive, it usually means minimum wage…

My old job stopped listing salaries as existing employees realised that they were being paid 4-6k under new employees with no experience.

Everyone’s been leaving in droves to different companies that are offering way more benefits.

    9. I feel like a mandatory salary range with variance of no more than 10% of the median within the range would be pretty good. Provides a balance between lower paid roles (30k – £27k to £33k) and higher paid roles (170k – £153k to £187k)

Not perfect, but it’d be something

Stupid law. As ever the minority idiots making things harder for the majority

      Hahahah brilliant!

Hopefully it will be specific and robust enough to stop employers just doing some other abusive nasty trick re. salaries.

Better late than never. There’s nothing more frustrating than applying for a job only to find out the salary wouldn’t pay you enough to live anyway…

Now ban the ads for ‘entry level’ that want masses of experience

    14. We already do this as we’re a US company and in one state it’s mandatory to publish the band, so we just publish it globally.

You can also look up the bands at any point to see what range a role sits in. It’s all very transparent.

And we haven’t exploded. It’s strange the US is ahead of us on this

I’d love it if it weren’t bollocks. Job agencies are the worst, they’ll say any old crap to get you interested & then say the role’s gone but they have another on the books… Not quite as much money… There were some going a while back where security clearance was required. In such cases it’s not permitted to insist on it, the employer is supposed to vet the candidates but of course they don’t want to pay for the process & tell the agency to reject anyone who doesn’t already have it. They rejected me as mine had only 6 months left before renewing cheeky fuckers.

I hate the ‚what salary do you expect‘ in the interview.

We should both be on the same page give or take a minor few thousand when we enter the room.

    17. My fear when I worked under other companies with this was its min wage basically…

But fair enough it should be said

    18. They need to enforce showing the company name and actual specific location as well. When you rely on public transport knowing if the office is in the city center a 5 min walk from the station or the middle of a giant industrial estate 5 miles from the nearest bus stop is important.

    19. Good start; now we need something done about the multitude of fake adverts, or recruitment firms advertising jobs that they don’t actually have any ability to even secure an interview for.

    20. About time. AI is already ruining the application process.

      AI lists the ad

      AI handles the applications

People use AI to apply in bulk

      AI does the first interview

      It’s insane

    21. Thank fuck for that. Absolute nightmare at the moment. Spend an hour applying for a job and then find out its like 23k for a 2-sheet page of responsibilites

I note that they are still deciding on whether this will be broad bands or more exact.

I say make them make it as precise as possible, otherwise, businesses will always find a way to squirm out of it. For instance you’ll up seeing ridiculous bands like 1000-100000 to avoid having to properly stipulate it! I could see that happening!
