Why? This is going to bankrupt the country for a glorified chatbot.
The amount of memory, GPU, electricity, etc this would use would be meme worthy.

I do not trust Korean ai model, from what I heard in the industry, it is way worse than antrophic and open ai, even comparative to Chinese models. This just sounds like one of those government attempt to grow the industry and forcing everybody to use it.

It’s pretty smart. Korea isn’t offering it for “free”. It’s mining its population for training data and owning its own sovereign ai. Better than have all the prompts and workflow sucked up by OpenAI or deepseek.

Everyone can already run free local models that are surprisingly capable. No interest in that? Then why would you have any interest in the Hancom Hangul of AI models? It’s the same mistake as the ’natuonal strategy‘ around ActiveX – committing to something that isn’t fully baked to the future deteiment of users.
