I know immigration can fix the economic consequences but damn a society without kids is going to be sad

Cantons? Why should anyone have to pay for 26 sets of incompetent cantonal politicians?
A better solution would be a single, unified republic. Administrative costs would be lower and one central government would be sufficient. After all, the same kind of ineffective political class at the federal level already manages the Switzerland.

The study says:
only a moderate increase in life expectancy (to 86.5 years for women and 82.5 years for men)
The current figures for 2024 are 82.4 and 85.9, with the gap between men and women decreasing from 5.1y in 2004 to 3.5y in 2024, and the life expectancy for men increasing 78.6 to 82.4 in the last 20y. So they start by saying that 1) life expectancy increase for men will suddenly stop in the next 25y and that the gap will increase again. Based on?
For me it all it takes to question a bit the study especially with „The trend toward longer lifespans and the resulting aging of society is set to continue for the foreseeable future.“ As the study doesn’t seem to take that into account.
We need to rethink the economy and make it not dependent on a growing number of young people. The economy should be set up for demographic fluctuations.
In the mean time, restrictions about renovating homes to have an extra space should be relaxed. If families are renovating attics or basements into rooms their parents could live in, this will take pressure off of the infrastructure for the elderly. Yes, only people who own homes could do it, so it wouldn’t be everyone, but it’s a large enough chunk of the population so that it would help.
Meanwhile families are attacked on all sides. You work? Day care is super expensive. You’ll have to work even more hours and see your kids less. You are a SAHP? You’re about to get a huge tax hike due to the law that just passed.
Elderly homes and care facilities are already preposterously expensive, we’re taking like a minimum of 8k CHF a month for the bare minimum. And many of them are already full and have a waitlist. But we’re not really scaling them up or making efforts to make them more accessible and affordable.
