      It’s all about the Nippon Kaigi, whose members are pulling the strings. Guess how many LDP members / ministers belong to 日本会議? Even the PM is a member of the Nippon Kaigi organisation. It’s like a shadow unelected government. Like Project 2025 in the USA, but maybe even worse.

      I keep getting this sub recommended for some reason. As a person not from Japan with little knowledge of it, I am amazed that one of the country’s chief political concerns during a time of global economic and political crisis is the sex of its next irrelevant figurehead.

      This is the kind of political controversy you would expect in 15th century England, not in one of the most economically and technologically prominent countries of the 20th and 21st centuries.

      What’s the point of having an imperial family if their whole life is basically dictated by elected politicians?

      If it is such a fragile system, it deserves to collapse. BUT there were 8 female empress in the past and the imperial system still exists so what they are saying is that “the imperial system they want to control will collapse”.
      What a weasel.
