Can’t really blame him, it’s a much better anthem, ours is forgettable.
He was asked to sing the anthem in French, while being himself from the Dutch speaking part and sung thz French anthem. Wrong, but not thát far fetched

One of the worst we ever had. Trendsetter for other dicks like Beke that refuse to leave when they fuck up but “take their responsibility” and keep nobly collecting fat paychecks while being incompetent.
His explanation was that he was confused because he was asked the question in French and not in Dutch. I don’t know, I always believed him. Of course he knows het volkslied. When you’re in a hurry but still want to answer the question…
This has never been a big deal to me. A mistake that could happen to any of us. If only this kind of stuff was still the most outrageous things Belgian politicians would say and do…
I never liked the guy or his politics, but this is just some pretty excusable human error. French wasn’t his native language. he pattern-matched the wrong national anthem. Big fucking deal.
Not that I feel any sympathy. He was part of pushing the polarization between the language communities to the point that this could be spun into something bigger than it actually is.

Really people, the only cool, funny, and harmless thing he ever did, and *that*’s why he gets roasted? Why not his cold, ineffective rightwing policies, or his corruption related to the Chinese corporate world?
