Wie Sie auf dem Foto sehen können, ist dies mein zweites Britta-Gerät und auf dem Wasserfilterteil aus Kunststoff bilden sich nach ein paar Monaten Gebrauch immer Algen. Ich tausche die Filter jeden Monat aus und wasche den Filterbehälter jede Woche sauber. Hat sonst noch jemand ähnliche Probleme? Gibt es eine bessere Alternative zur Wasserfilterung als Britta? Ich benutze den Filter, weil ich den Geschmack von Leitungswasser nicht mag.
Bearbeiten: – Diese Alge entwickelt sich im unteren Teil, von wo aus Wasser in den Wasserbehälter tropft und zur Reinigung nicht zerlegt werden kann.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide to kill the algae. Simple as that.
You’re not supposed to use the same filter for a few months. And yes, it’s a known fact if you use them too long they get gross.

Well to be honest its not really needed to filter tap water in Germany. Often people that filter the water „verschlimmbesser“ things.
Stiftung Warentest, the independent consumer test magazine from the government, says especially because of that reason, don’t use water filters. In general, there is no need for that in Germany. They became all after a few months, bio hazard fire zones, and are more harmful to Humans, because of all the bacterias which you drink, as not using water filters, at all.
I just cleaned mine of alge yesterday. I soaked the bottom and the spigot in citric acid (Citronensäure) for a few hours. Took care of it. I also use it to clean the mineral deposits on the rest of the filter
Don’t keep it at sunny and warm place on your counters. Keeping mine (with glass container and plastic filter holder) in the fridge and never happened to me
These filters are both a curse and a blessing. I like to use filtered water for tee but they are prone to contamination unfortunately. As doon as the water is out of the tap, it can’t stand for long before contamination.
To avoid algae (and other organic contamination), always keep the container out of the light anf cool. I keep mine in the fridge where it’s dark and cool. Algae only grow with sun as their source or energy. And the cold slows down any kind of cells from multiplying too quickly, buying you time to drink the water.
I doubt it’s algae. My guess would be a mixture of minerals and other dissolved compounds that precipitated as water evaporates, along with some biofilm. Brita filters reduce some dissolved minerals and certain metals, but they don’t sterilize the water. Bacteria and other microorganisms can still colonize the filter and the damp surfaces if it’s been sitting for a while.
Where do you store your filtering device? I disliked the common used Jugs, because they often are used at Room temperature. That’s why I got myself this container filter, which I can place and leave in my fridge. This helps keeping it always cool and reduces bacterial growth

You do not need to filter water in Germany, and filters generally make the water worse because they’re breeding grounds for mold and all kinds of shit.

Yes it is a good solution to filter water. We usually fill up a 20 ltr container with a tap and use it until empty.
It sits on the kitchen bench in the shade and is covered with towels to let as little light in as possible.
If we should spot any traces of green algae over summer time, we remove it straight away with a mixture of water, vinegar and baking powder.
Never had this issue myself, but I can see this happening.
I don’t use Britta filters because of the price and I try to avoid microplastics as much as I can.
I switched to a tap installed filter, better would be an under-the-sink osmosis filter.
Before the fanatics come at me about German tap water quality.
It’s very nice y’all don’t have limescale issues. Some people like I do and very severe at that.
Not for plants, especially Cannabis (Calcium <=>Natrium). For humans its okay.
The smaller the filter the nastier the water.
There’s been a lot of tests over theyears that consistently show that those small filters are just a breeding ground for all kinds of shit. (Might be avoided if you clean every day and change the filter each week idk).
The efficient ones are the big ones designed for the whole house etc.
There’s obviously not a lot that needs filtering out in tap water, so if it’s just the taste that’s bothering you i would rather try bottled water or some kind of flavour.
I suggest to use a glass filter container with non plastic refillable filter parts which can be cleaned properly. This way, you can also buy the filter medium in bulk instead of these plastic throwaway units. Cheaper for you and less waste.
I don’t have this problem with my filter. I keep mine on my counter
If it’s really algae, keeping it in a dark place (fridge or cabinet) should help
How do you clean it? I put mine in the dishwasher regularly (2 times per month)
Brita and all other Filters are crap. More Salt, lots of bakteria.
