      Mandatory 5 weeks every year, if you’re in a collective agreement (tariffavtale), which most are.

      Other than that, 4 weeks at the minimum.

      If you’re over 60, it’s 6 weeks.

      Norway isn’t even in the top 5 of OECD countries when it comes to paid time off.

      My boss wouldn’t let me skip 5 weeks vacation if I begged him. Norwegian experience

      Not just Norway. Pretty standard in every developed country apart from the US.

      It depends I’ve been at my company over 6 yrs and get 28 days of vacation plus holidays. A friend gets a month off and all federal holidays. This 2 week nonsense is for workers either no seniority.

      It honestly depends where you work in the USA. I regularly take a month off every year to go back home ever since my first job out of college. I’ve job hopped every two years and none of my employers ever denied my PTO. Maybe it’s part luck as my mangers have generally always been great

      Today was my first day of summer holiday,four weeks left..😎

      Full pay,of course.(actually here in Finland we usually get more money during holiday..)

      I am a teacher, so I have 7 weeks every summer, plus a week in october, two weeks for christmas, a week in february, and a week for easter.

      sure if you pit it against America (or anything) it will definitely always be better but Norway still has a long way to go.

      Also, in Belgium (not sure how it is in other countries like Norway) you HAVE to take those paid vacation days. If you have some of them left at the end of the year, you have to pay those back.

      And another thing: in some jobs (especially the ones where you control your own hours), if you work overtime, you can use these to take more days off. So instead of getting paid first, you can chose to plan these on hours you normally work. So if you have 8 hours overtime, you could take a day off and use these instead (or use 4 hours to take half a day off). It’s not in all jobs, but in some you can.

      I have 5 weeks off in America, auto approved PTO. This is not how it works for everyone.

      And its mandatory. We are not allowed to not use our vacation weeks.

      Yes it sucks for us but think of all the billionaires we have made and how good their lives are because of our hard work, don’t be so selfish.

      It’s still really expensive because of travel, hotels and of course, stadium tickets. Some families are using 30-50 thousand dollars for this event, which is insane for a vacation.

      I often hear Americans cry they don’t have five weeks like us, but how many weeks do they have?

      Yes but then compare salaries. A very very different philosophy regarding work life balance, but nobody in Norway is pulling US level salaries in higher education jobs.

      Honestly, I struggle with 3 weeks Summer holiday (which is the norm) .. I save one of those weeks for later and just take two.

      This is the result of unions demanding right for workers. So get organized! I see a lot happening there already in the US. Our unions didnt get infiltrated by mafia etc. So they have a solid rep! But! It might change.. less and less people getting organized theese days.

      Everything is a trade off:
      I bet im America you can work your ass off for years and with some financial literacy you can retire..in Norway aint gonna happen

      In Finland & get 43 days holiday per year, though counted as 6 days used per week holiday.

      I’m a bus-driver. 5 weeks is the normal amount (will go up to 6 once I turn 60).

      In addition to that though, I sometimes work Saturdays, and then earn extra vacation-days to take at some other point instead. It’s pretty normal for me to have 7-8 weeks of vacation per year.

      On top of that I could take unpaid leave if I wanted. I mention this because Americans often can’t do that because the way their healthcare-system is set up, their employers will be paying for their healthcare even when they’re on unpaid leave — which is a bad deal for the employers, of course.

      I’ve lived in Norway for five years and I’ve never had a holiday in that time. Not everyone in Norway is treated the same.
