Quelle: meine eigene Handschrift – jedes Notizbuch, das ich seit September 2025 auf einem reMarkable 2-Tablet geschrieben habe, insgesamt 3.026 Seiten. Das Tablet speichert jeden Stiftstrich als Koordinatenliste in seinem eigenen .rm-Dateiformat, es handelt sich also um die Rohdaten des Stifts und nicht um ein Bild der Seiten.

    Wie: Python mit der rmscene (https://github.com/ricklupton/rmscene)-Bibliothek, um die Striche zu analysieren, SQLite, um sie zu speichern, und Pillow, um die Heatmap zu rendern, indem die Strichlänge in einem feinen Raster über der Seite summiert wird. Das umgebende Layout ist nur HTML/CSS, Screenshot. Keine Diagrammbibliothek. Der Tintenabstand ist die summierte Punkt-zu-Punkt-Länge jedes Strichs. Ich habe es kalibriert, indem ich den Umfang einer Kreditkarte nachgezeichnet habe (ID-1-Standard, 85,6 × 53,98 mm) und es liegt innerhalb von ~1 %. Gelöschte Striche sind ausgeschlossen.

    Ein paar Dinge können Sie auf der Karte ablesen: Auf dem hellen Fleck oben links schreibe ich den Titel auf jede Seite; Die horizontale Streifenbildung ist die Regellinienvorlage, auf der ich schreibe. und das schwache dreieckige Gitter unten ist ein einzelnes Gekritzel von einer Seite – es fällt auf, weil der untere Rand der Seite unverhältnismäßig weniger Tinte erhält als der obere (und das Ausfüllen dieses Gekritzels hat viel Arbeit gekostet, haha).

    Es ist Teil eines kleinen Live-Dashboards, das ich für mich selbst erstellt habe (Tagessträhnen, Tageszeit, diese Heatmap): https://remarked.pavelj.com/public.html – Seien Sie vorsichtig, es wird auf einem 2011 Mac Mini selbst gehostet. Wenn es also nicht funktioniert, habe ich das Cloudflare-Caching durcheinander gebracht.

      This is honestly fascinating, thank you for sharing. It reminds me of when I messed around with a heatmaps extension on a company’s website at an old job, something about heatmaps tickles a certain part of my brain.

    4. Amazing, but also an indictment of lectures and university teaching content, I too found myself going to lectures and making only a few lines of notes and wishing I’d stayed in bed!

      Am i the only one that got confused by the title? „pen landed“ is a synecdoche. I thought it meant a totally different thing. As in, you would lay your pen flat horizontally on a surface and record that. It would be more accurate to say it’s a heatmap of your handwritten notes.

      Maybe you should have some kind of equalizing on the data? Because it’s weird that your triangles come from one page. They seem overrepresented across a 3000 page database.

      Regardless, this is beautiful data. Pointless and elegant. Wonderfully fitting.

      Edit: averaged out over a standard 2 semester university system that’s ~90 days of classes, depending. 30+ pages a day is mind boggling to me. Am I getting that right?

Since you have the raw data, I’m curious: if you total the ink used on each of the first nine ruled lines, does the distribution look anything like Benford’s Law—roughly 30% on line 1, 18% on line 2, 12.5% on line 3, etc.? I realize Benford’s Law doesn’t technically apply here, nor should it, but the fading pattern made me wonder how closely they match.

    18. I know you said you’re in CS, but I wish you’d post this to r/engineeringstudents. This is the perfect example of the sort of personal project that is recommended aa nauseum to „get you noticed“, and also a perfect example of the sort of initiative and curiosity that employers are looking for. But half the students in that sub seem to have fallen into the trap of thinking it’s the project that is the thing instead of the motivations behind it. Which is kind of OK, I guess, because half of the hiring managers just see it as a box to check off as well, but this kind of nerdery is exactly what I see in my brightest classmates.

      Am I missing something? This is just how writing works.. top left to bottom right. Wouldn’t most people’s note books look the exact same..?
