Me, a Brazilian, just finding out now that it’s illegal and not mandatory.

I can’t believe assaulting children is viewed as an acceptable and effective form of punishment in the US despite research indicating it’s not effective and laws against doing that kind of thing to anyone but children.

I don’t believe this a bit. Maybe this is real on paper But I know people from both Argentina and South Africa and Corporal punishment is common. Hell in south Africa they’ll beat your ass in class. Overall this map is only legal on paper.

It’s thanks to this law that South Sudan is such a safe place for children to grow up in.

    5. My grandpa used to tell me that people form Portugal used to come here in northern hemisphere to punish their kids because it was banned there. Now I don’t believe in this for a sec but it is just funny to think about it now. Even funnier thing is that I used to believe this because ofc I was 5 and even though this was something to be proud of lol

In Singapore school corporal punishment (caning) is legal, but only to boys.

Why in so many countries it is legal why is it ok to it a person especially a child which is defenceless when you are the one person in is life that suppose to keep him safe that is so messed up

    8. It was illegal for like 30 seconds in Zimbabwe in the 2010s before they backtracked on it

In Norway, it is also strictly illegal to hit, threaten, or subject children to psychological violence, such as terrifying or humiliating yelling. Hitting, threatening, or systematically yelling at a child to instill fear falls under this statute. It carries a prison sentence of up to 6 years.

In Egypt, teachers hit students so bad to the point where students started fighting back with one extreme case ending with a teachers death from a 16 year old

Of course it’s Egypt so the situation didn’t change for the better almost a decade later

Very interesting! I’m currently writing my master’s dissertation on this topic.

    12. it’s should be red in Indonesia because first we didn’t use corporal punishment for children in Indonesia like in Malaysia and Singapore and nowday if teacher hitting student for misbehavior there is a lot of consequence for the teacher and the parent can sue the school

and if anyone comment „whatabout Aceh and canning“ that’s just one province with their own autonomy of 37 provinces of Indonesia and only adult is canned

    13. In Italy it’s forbidden in schools and in the legal system. At home, it’s a gray area: there’s a sentence that says it’s unlawful, but there’s no explicit law saying it.

To clarify, the law is not enforced in Venezuela, so it’s normal for corporal punishment to still be a thing in most households.

It’s the same thing with other progressive laws the chavista dictatorship put in place for leftists credit. Technically, trans people can change their gender in their id. In reality, the institutions that issues ids refuses to do so and noone cares to enforce the law. This has been a big point of criticism the trans community of Venezuelan has against the chavista dictatorship. It is not the biggest point of criticism, no, the biggest point is that the dictatorship refuses to give rights to the LGBT community in general despite calling themselves progressives. The actual movements pushing in favor of those rights are civilian organizations that align with the opposition.

I remember a comedian telling a crowd of her avoiding belts and wooden spoons as an adult and people laughed and she said “Thank God, I did that joke in Sweden and they were horrified!” Lol

I see all my rich friends with their kids and because they don’t spend time with their kids and discipline them, theyre the most miserable children to be around.

Funny how many times my father slapped me across the face hard enough to disorient me even with this law in place (just checked, I was 4 years old when it was implemented in my country). At least now it makes sense why he never did it with my mother around.

I’m from South Africa and they still hit kids even though it’s outlawed

    19. Odd, in UK now and the idea of hitting is super frowned upon.

Whereas in south Africa where I grew up I was raised thinking the only reason I had a butt was so that there was something for my parents and teachers to hit that wouldnt do permanent damage.

I guess if it’s not culturally problematic then there is no need to legislate against it.

Wow, it’s illegal to hit kids in Israel? Guess they just shoot them instead

While It became illegal in Denmark proper in 1997 it took another 20 years to become illegal on Greenland.

      Beating Children = NO

      Disciplining Children = YES

      Undisciplined children become undisciplined adults.

    23. that’s insane! you get jail time for hitting an adult but not a kid!!! Why? what’s the fucking reason behind this?
